California has begun implementing a "cap and trade" environmental protection program, in which companies purchase credits for their greenhouse gas emissions. Good plan?

legalized bribing is strictly hyperbole. it's a program that exist in other developed countries.

imanag, I too do not have a Ph.D. in climatology, but I am a scientist with a graduate degree in biology. I know enough about science to know the reasons to be concerned are valid, that Ph.D.s in physics and climatology are telling us we have a problem.

OMG! The jobs are just flying out of here!

except it's not true. Just because some idiot on TV told you that (and you believed it) doesn't make it reality.

It doesn't hurt to be environmentally conscious. I really hope the US doesn't become an unlivable shit hole because there's pollution everywhere...

And that attitude is why no one gives a fuck what tree-huggers think. Because they'll rubber-stamp anything if it's labeled "Good for the environment".

I'm glad we have a bunch of arm-chair TV Ph.D.s here in the complex field of climatology. That top-notch science education you have fully makes you qualified to claim that you understand what's actually going on.

CA is not "broke". Who has the largest GDP? Who has the most fortune 500 companies?

It's called a budget deficit. It's temporary. Stop parroting what TV pundits say and learn what reality actually is.

It will be just like the smog pumps on cars. "oh, it's going to kill jobs!". Did it? No. So what happened? Other states started doing the same. Same with fuel mixtures and energy standards.

I think we now have bigger issues here than being stuck in the 90s. Especially with the new legislative democrat supermajority and Gavin Newsome potentially becoming our next governor.

These are not normal cycles and a close look at the numbers would tell you that. This is why it is not argued in the science community. It's only if u choose to believe it or not. But it does the facts

This was passed years ago and just now being implemented.

And with California's new democrat legislative supermajority (yes both the senate and assembly are now 2/3 democrat) this state is in for a world of hurt.

I'm by no means a doomsayer, but this state is potentially heading to a dark place.

Earth has gone through thousands of global warming & global cooling cycles in its long history. If we are in another warming cycle, better than being in another cooling cycle.

We can not stop or alter this process. We can predict to some degree what the results may be and make preparations. The smart people will survive and the stupid and ignorant will perish. The earth will support the resultant population.

Additionally, the earth is thermodynamically influenced by the sun's heat and probably to some degree by planets and stars. There may be other influences as well.

The earth's climate is changing and has been since it was formed and will continue to change as long as the it exist. The earth is a large heat machine operating on the laws of thermodynamics.

CA is desperate for income. How does taxing (yes, taxing) help the environment? There is a logical disconnect here. If they banned bad emissions from every company, now that would be something. Otherwise, it's just an excuse for generating revenue

California is so broke, I see zero chance of these funds actually being used to improve the environment. This smells like a common revenue tactic to me, under the thin guise of saving the earth.

I support sustainable, clean industry, but I don't think this is the right way to do it.
