Funny that the republicans prayed the most but still lost. I guess god is a democrat.

Certainly He does. The Bible says that he governs in the affairs of men. I think that would include governments.

Prayed that God's will would be done. Then asked Him to remove Obama by any means necessary.

You shouldn't voice your opinion unless your prepared for others to voice their opinion about yours...

There must be more than one study because the ones I have seen involved participants that had no idea there were groups of people praying for them.

Praying for an election is right up there with praying for your sports team to win. Like the ruler of the universe actually cares?

Younger people tend to pray less. There is hope for human kind.

Michael - when I think of our world problems, I always find religion right in the middle.
I wish we could become a more spiritual people and lose "religion" all together.

@Randfan so you believe that nothing created everything?

God,
This may sound a little weird but um... I think you should bring Washington and Lincoln back to life and make them President and Vice President. That sounds like the best idea possible.
Amen

We have always lived in a godless world, though most people have just never realized it. Give it a bit more time, say a few hundred more years, then everyone will realize that the world is and has always been quite godless.

I just pray as a kind of meditation. I don't believe in a GOD, only in the beautiful-living-interconnected-eternal existence that we all share. Im ok with this... Still, I do miss my old friend. And, If my friend did exist - My friend would never hurt or punish me for not believing. Love.

I'm not much of the praying type. Praying does nothing but calm the mind, and I've always felt awkward praying. I don't really know why.

You don't have to pray that a specific candidate win, only that gods will be done. I may be hoping for a specific candidate but my will isn't gods will, so I will accept either outcome.

...and other atheists to try to prove that God isn't real, when you know all along that He is your Father. He created your spirit. He created this earth for you to live on. He gives you air to breathe. I promise that when you pray to Him, he hears and answers your prayers.

11/05/12 11:22 pm

...who pray have more active brains also. All kinds of studies have been done in the brains of people who pray regularly and while praying, and they indicate that their brains are more active also. Your finger crossing statistic is one of the little things you go about telling yourself and ...

11/05/12 11:20 pm

Well I'm a Christian and I know for a fact that you've made you "statistics.". The fact is that people who pray regularly are happier, enjoy a more healthy life, are more confident, and live longer, etc. I'm surprised that as an atheist you haven't come across these studies that show that people ...

If you want to believe you suck at life without an imaginary friend, go ahead. Just keep it to yourself. Not in politics.

People can be good, but they can't and never will be their very best without God. More importantly, they will never be able to be clean until they admit their need for a Savior and come unto Him with a broken heart, willing to change and serve him.

11/05/12 11:08 pm

Have you ever read the Bible? History books? When people forget about God, he reminds them that he's still there, and it usually isn't in a comforting way.

Debate requires people to be willing to do that. If one or both sides are not willing to budge at all (religion) then nothing ever happens from debating it.

So you don't think people can be good without god?

Reply

11/05/12 11:05 pm

Yes I am. I don't expect people to believe in God the same way that I do, but when a people begin to forget about their creator, everything goes down from there. I think that we all need to recognize the need for God in our lives, especially for the remission of sins.

Calling someone stupid for believing in something outlandish and physically impossible is not unjustified. It is the definition of stupid.

If this question had been asked some 30 years ago, the majority would have prayed about the election. What a Godless world we live in now. It makes me fear the future a little bit, not so much for me, but for my children.
