And Halloween is about spirits and such, but that doesn't have a large presence in the celebration. Many non-Christians have adopted Christmas, so I don't see it as HAVING to be about religion. I may be for some, but not all.

And not for nothing. Where does it say my GOD is your GOD. your god could be your cat and its one nation under your cat.

Yeah, I don't really care. I guess if you're strict about that stuff then it is, but it honestly doesn't matter to me. I don't see it as that big of a deal.

I don't think so mainly because there are plenty of non-Christians that celebrate Christmas. Yes Christians do celebrate the birth of Jesus, but what does a Christmas tree have to do with that anyway? So no I don't think it is.

Palindrome oh my GOD (oh I'm sorry does that offend you?) if THEY were okay with other people's religions why is it so hard for YOU to be. "You don't even know history" maybe not but you're a hypocritical- you know what. I don't care. Your whining is not worth my time. Wah Christmas wah!

Palindrome, the SCOTUS makes mistakes. Outlawing a nativity scene is making a law respecting an establishment of religion. My legal advice is "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion". You don't need to be a lawyer to understand this.

One nation under God appears nowhere in our constitution and wasn't even put on it coins into '48.... You don't even know the history of this country

I hate that people have a problem with this. I'm not religious. It's not bothering anyone. Let people be festive. They're not setting the crap up in your house. Chill out!

Miss- what you said is stupid. People who fought for this country belong to various denominations and beliefs. Using your own argument, we should respect them for their heroic sacrifice by preserving the spirit of secularism this country was founded on and our constitution

Is it part of Christmas? Then it is a religious holiday, that atheists do not believe in and still celebrate? I do not believe in Kwanzaa and do not celebrate it at all. But, if you put up a display in a park I will go and look and see the wonder of it without pissing on it and screaming it down...

Since always. We are not "one nation under God" and repeating a lie over and over will not make it any more true. You think you people pushing that would've learned after the election.

Why don't we nip something else in the bud before it lays eggs? :)
11/27/12 3:10 pm
Not by your standards but by the people who fought for this country, it was. And palindrome, I think they deserve more of an input than you do as you obviously did not go out and fight against impossible odds to get here okay? Okay. Don't like the pledge, don't say it. Don't spend money.

Palindrome no one is forcing you to pray. No one is forcing you to believe. If you don't, then the tree is just a pretty tree and baby Jesus is just a human. There's no reason to freak out and demand it all be taken down. That's absolutely stupid.

Like it has been said. Our country is "One Nation Under God" So why can it not be shown ? Nobody is being persecuted and its not offensive. The founders of this country came here to escape religious persecution. As far as I'm concerned no group is being persecuted by this celebration

It isn't about whether its Christian or not. It's about religious infringement. I'm from the 'nip that crap in the bud' side if the argument. This is why we have preachers pushing politics from the pulpit. This is and must remain a secular nation. And you can't be arbitrary with the law- it all goes

someone's twinkling fir tree, I think that's your problem and not anyone else's. I mean its a tree, it's not even a cross. And the nativity sets are just people to those who don't believe. It's not like people are getting slaughtered in them. Just my belief anyway...

Even tho its a cristian holiday, i dont consider it religios. Im athiest and i celebrate christmas every year with my family. Its a time of happyness, family and presents. Not "god"

I agree with everyone saying they're not forcing you to pray or believe in any religion. It's the same thing as someone wearing an upside down cross necklace or a Wiccan symbol sweatshirt (I sincerely apologize I'm not very educated on the Wiccan belief). Like if you're offended by something like...

It doesn't matter how many people believe it or how many people own it. If you want to display your beliefs, do it on your own. Don't use your office.

Where do you guys get your legal advice? Lionel Hutz?? You're free to worship however YOU want, you can't force your views out onto the public. That is CLEAR. Read the constitution and then read SCOTUS cases on the 1st amendment. Ignorance!

Christmas doesn't have religious meaning for many people nowadays. I have atheist and Buddhist and even Jewish friends who celebrate Christmas for fun.

Bigdaddy - I was just about to make the same comment. After reading all 260 comments, I'm pleasantly surprised that the atheists are very easy going on this issue.
