Well, I'm not a Christian, but I think it's pretty clear that Jesus was born! Sure, it's a historical event. On the other hand, in context, nativity scenes are not really intended as history lessons.

a Christian monogram and symbol formed from the first two letters X and P of the Greek word for Christ —called also Christogram......straight from Merriam-Webster. I guess they don't know either? Look it up.

right near my town hall there's a big nativity scene and a menorah. I'm agnostic, and the first thing I said was, "How tacky" because it was huge and ugly. I like the fact people are finally recognizing Chanukah.

And for the record I lean right on more issues than not and celebrate Christmas, but this is NOT a Christian nation.

Freaks out? I think not. I will sometimes partake in typical 'Christian' activities not because I believe, but out of respect for the person. Just like going to other countries and not doing a thumbs up, or eating with my left hand.

I think the "christmas" tree has lost it's traditional significance. So technically it is. But yet again the US is a Christian nation.

As someone who is agnostic it disturbs me that ppl actually protest these things. These are long standing practices that should be left alone. Censoring religion violates the constitution and freedom of speech. We have a nativity scene on the town common with a menorah by it. Neither offends me.

I agree. But I wouldn't put Christmas trees under the "religious" umbrella. Trees are more commercial these days. Nativity scenes are a different story. Not only do they scream religion, they borderline on scary/creepy.

Religion & religious symbols have no place in government or public run building or spaces!! The only reason people want them there is because it represents their religion!! What about the rest of us that don't want your garbage lies assaulting our eyes!!??!!

If you need a government to endorse your religion, you have a crappy religion. The government workers can display whatever they want at home, but the public places are not theirs. Be respectful to other people.

I don't see the scene of a bunch of homeless folks hanging out in a barn as overtly religious, and the Christmas tree certainly isn't, so either of these seems reasonable to me. But a cross with a dead Jesus hanging from it or other religious symbols or signs don't belong in publicly owned places.

The part about a militia is a descriptor. "The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." is the operative statement.

Exactly, even though Christmas has been watered down to just a day for family gathering and gift exchange, that doesn't make the holiday have any less of a strong Christian essence.

Isn't there a reason these things usually get shot down in court? Wanna know why? Because these festivals and sneaky attempts at getting the state to endorse a religion are ridiculously shallow. They can't even survive the most minimal level of judicial scrutiny: does it advance a state interest? NO

THANK YOU for proving my point. That's the crap we shouldn't have to do in this country just to entertain YOUR personal desire. I, nor anyone else, should have to go out of my way so the state can celebrate a religious activity.

Palindrome is absolutely right. It may not be a direct violation of the constitution, per se, but it serves no purpose on government property of any kind.
