Every goddamn time we have intervened since World War II, it's come back to haunt us or just been a total failure. Maybe we should start being more isolationist and save our budget billions of dollars.

Let the UN resolve something - anything - w/ out the US.
That I would like to see.

America has a bad habit of putting in leaders that bite us in the ass. Saddam, Castro, etc

They only attack us because we are over there, you think 9/11 was a first strike? It was a retaliation

there is a very likely chance that the rebels are backed by al Qaeda. if that is the case we would be hypocrites to send any forces against president Assad. if anything we should help.him maintain secure order.

Although there are different ways to interpret the question: American forces in UN resolution, or UN forces under UN resolution. The first, no; the second, yes.

Patimen- I'm not for it but I can take a guess and say that they are in support of stopping the violence- not necessarily starting a war (though really that's what would happen). More of a humanitarian want to help than a military purpose?

Because peacekeepers can't shoot. An international force present could show intentions of interest in the well being of the people. If it said NATO, I would say No.

Some liberal want to explain why they are more supportive of this than Republicans? Baffling.

Everyone is thinking UN troops means American led forces.

06/12/12 9:01 am

We have to pick and chose our battles. Unfortunately we are spread out too much and shouldn't help. Ha we not gotten involved in Iraq for a decade maybe we would've been able to do more.

We should bring all our troops home so they can start rounding up all the politicians for conviction.

Air support. Let other Arab nations do the ground work.

06/12/12 8:33 am

The whole using children as human shields thing makes me barf though. Sick sick people.

06/12/12 8:31 am

Nope. I say we take all that money and use it to fix some of our problems here first. It'd be nice if we could fix the whole world but we can't. The world is a pretty messed up place sometimes. Though the situation in Syria is pretty horrendous. Someone else should take the lead.

06/12/12 8:28 am

@nvr2 Exactly. He then has the nerve to claim that he is doing a lot of drilling. In actuality, it is private non government- sanctioned drilling he has no say in.

06/12/12 8:26 am

Selfthink: maybe we should give them some of our oil, oh wait Obama won't let us get at it...damn guess we will need theirs.

On subject here PLZ. I get insulted enough by my siblings.

Everyone vote Mitt Romney in showdowns! Hurry!

06/12/12 8:23 am

Not under a U.N. flag no! Our troops are worn pretty thin. If anything we use our superior air power strategically to keep Assad's thugs out of the cities. Maybe some special forces guys willing to keep it fair.

06/12/12 8:19 am

@optimist so that was an insult calling her "him"?

Democrats are for sending troops with the UN, I suppose the idea is that they'll help "do the right thing". I say we stay out of it.

@H50 Lol I think you're right. Also I agree about the UN. I hate it.

06/12/12 7:35 am

@RPG Don't worry. He/she is 12.

06/12/12 7:34 am

The UN is stupid. We should withdraw from it.

06/12/12 7:33 am

@optimist Why would Syria attack us??

optimist6 Fort Wayne, IN
06/12/12 7:32 am

Plain and simple. We don't attack them, they attack us. However like Rosebud said, another country can pick up the slack, but they probably won't.

06/12/12 7:28 am

How much oil does Syria have?

Rosebud Ohio
06/12/12 7:24 am

H50- good question. I though republicans were "war mongers" and "out of touch" with the majority. I'd love to hear an explanation there!

06/12/12 7:22 am

Since when to Dems support military action more than repubs?

Rosebud Ohio
06/12/12 7:19 am

No. Do we really need to send our kids over there to die? We do it every time a conflict breaks out. Let some other countries in the UN pick up the slack. Considering most do bull to help others.

06/12/12 6:58 am

Oh yeah, let's go kill more innocents with drones and put our troops in the middle of the horror. Great idea! Who cares about the debt we young people are going to have to pay off someday, Benny Bernanke will just print more FRNs to pay and devalue our dollar even more!

06/12/12 6:53 am

I hate the United Nations with the power of a thousand angry suns.

06/12/12 6:50 am

We dont need to send troops anywhere right now!

06/12/12 6:47 am

First! No, the UN sucks and we need to mind our own business.
