Which are more important to you: social issues (gay marriage, abortion, etc.) or economic issues (jobs, taxes, etc.)?

Bottom Line: trying to claim that the Republican Party has always been bigoted and racist is grossly untrue, and is the ultimate slander and libel scheme of the Left.

President Eisenhower sends an escort of the US Army with the kids and breaks the lines of the Arkansas National Guard. Then in the '60s and '70s, Democrats noticed that the minority vote was sweeping the polls, so they just conveniently changed the political history and America, sadly, bought it.

Fast forward to the '50's. President Eisenhower, a Republican, hears about an incident in Little Rock, Arkansas where the Democrat Gov. George Wallace is attempting to keep 9 black students from attending a "white school" by use of the Arkansas National Guard.......

Threeper301 Gilbert, AZ

.....southern Democrats formed the KKK to intimidate, terrorize, and kill blacks to suppress them through fear and keep them away from the polls. (Ironic; remember the poll intimidation tactics the Dens used in the '08 election?)

@d3vil: Ok, let's clarify between liberal and conservative. 150 years ago, things were a little different. We all know Democratic party was conservative. Let not go by labels, but rather by ideologies. The Republican/democrat parties are completely different now.

So, either Republicans don't know what their leadership is doing, Republican leaders don't know what their voters care about, or Republicans don't know themselves very well..

Threeper301 Gilbert, AZ

When blacks were given the right to vote shortly afterwards, it was obvious they were going to vote Republican, because Lincoln was Republican, and he freed them. Because the Democrats knew that would mean their political demise.....

I think it's pretty hilarious/sad that social issues don't matter much to Republicans, and yet, Republican leaders are the ones leading the charge on social issues from women's rights (repealing the ability to sue for equal pay) to transgender rights (voting against ENDA).

Threeper301 Gilbert, AZ

.......Pres. Lincoln was the first Republican president, and he gave all black slaves their emancipation. When the Union was restored, the South, logically and overwhelmingly Democrat, wanted revenge, so they killed Lincoln.

Gryffindor, that's fine to stay on the sidelines unless you happen to be someone who wants to get married or have an abortion. Then you're stuck in the middle while other people argue about whether your personal choices are moral.

Social issues won't pay your rent!

@ Mags99: EXCUSE ME?!?! You need to re-read your history; the UN-INDOCTRINATED version. Since the end of the Civil War, it has always been the Republicans leading the charge for equal rights for blacks and minorities! A little history lesson.....

Definitly Social issues. The issues I feel most strongly about are gay rights, abortion, welfare, and animal rights

Social issues should be left to the individuals. We all prosper when the economy is well. We can still be screwed even if all the social crap is "fixed" as one side would prefer or the other

Nerdz Texas

I really don't like to associate with gay marriage and abortion because then if you pick a side then the opposed side attempts to ruin your life.

Social issues should be personal. Conservatives want the government out of their lives economically, but want government involved in our lives socially. Makes no sense to me.

Well if we don't fix the economy then social issues won't be up for discussion. Our (future) Chinese government won't allow it.

This country's most pressing problems are economic ones. The social issues are just political fodder...

@demsrfascists
Groups you can still make fun of/hate on are: Christians, Jews, Blondes, Conservatives, & Caucasians. Hate on anyone else it's a hate crime, and you have to apologize. One of these, they're just supposed to shut up and take it. Hate speech/crime is pretty unfair, eh?

How can a country fix it's economy when half the citizens are virtually at war with each other? No ones gonna put their differences aside concerning gay marriage, abortion, drug use and personal choice issues. How can a bunch of people hating each other solve anything?

kateXcore Dark side of the moon
08/10/12 10:36 am

Right now in our country, economic. We should all put our social differences aside and try to work together on this one. The economy is not getting any better, and unemployment is rising. Personally, some social issues bother me more than economic issues.

Some social issues are also economic issues. Case in point; marijuana. Legalization of marijuana is an issue that should be seen in economic context, while also being a cultural issue. Legalization will save tons of money, lives, and help to stimulate our week economy.

I said Social because it's something that webcam fix right now. It's not something that "will save 1 trillion dollars over the next decade." It's something we can hold one vote on, and be done with. Of course, there are more social issues than just homosexual marriage.

08/10/12 9:49 am

It was social issues (because I think everyone deserves what makes them happy) but with the economy being as bad as it is I have moved to being more concerned about how the government is making decisions that affect our wallet.

To oversimplify a bit, I would say this nation was founded on social ideals that, when practiced effectively, lead to economic prosperity. We might be able to become economically stable jackasses, but I prioritize our national character, with economic responsibilty as a critical subset of that.
