Sort of, but mostly disagree. I don't think it matters if you win or lose OR how you play the game. It's called a game for a reason. It only matters that you have fun. If it isn't fun, it isn't much of a game - or you aren't doing it right.

As long as you play to win, try your hardest, and learn from your loss, it is all good. Isn't that just like everything else in life?

Agree. Unless you're the Chicago Blackhawks playing a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Western Conference Finals...

Why play if not to win? Then what's the point?

Even if it's not true, it's better than telling people they can get by without trying.

Apparently, the conservative core of the country pretty strictly disagrees with this statement, at least as regards the lower classes. If you've lost, you obviously didn't play the game correctly. Because somehow everyone who plays "right" wins.

I agree, it ISN'T about winning or losing, it is about giving your all, being part of a team and having fun with a sport you love and not getting bent out of shape if you do lose.

The purpose of any competitive activity is to win. How you play the game is a losers stance

And apparently the liberal core believes that the end justifies the means so it's ok to lie steal and cheat for the cause.

Both. Good sportsmanship is very important, but winning is awesome! I do not condone winning at all costs, but I do think one should try to win. BTW, good sportsmanship is just as important for the winners to have.

Don't get me wrong, I would rather win any day! I am very competitive BUT I am teaching my boys to have integrity, to be fair, and to think of others. I want them to do their best, but I will not let them be the kids crying or screaming if they lose!

Agree. If you give it your all, in anything not just a game, the satisfaction is still there. If you didn't, there will be regret.

That's how it should be unfortunately you get overzealous moms and dads who feel their children are all superstars & will get a scholarship or play pro something. That's the travesty of it all. Sportsmanship, sadly is often overlooked.

The training/effort/focus/discipline that goes into "winning" can mean a lot.

But it's not everything.

It's both. You have to play right and fair and be a good sport. But winning matters.

And there is a difference between being a good loser and a good sport. I'm a good sport if I lose, but I'm a terrible loser.
