Do you think itโ€™s acceptable to take your shoes off during a plane flight?

If a 300 pound man comes over and sits next to you, and you slowly start seeing him taking his shoes off, what are you going to think? Do you think that is OK? Technically it all depends on the smell, hopefully they would be nice enough to wash their feet but if they want to take off their shoes they can just go in the bathroom. It might be disgusting but it’s the best place they can do it. Maybe, just maybe I would say yes to letting them take off their shoes, but if they start to take off their socks I’m done

NO! I've poured a drink on someone's feet before when they put them up on my armrest. Oops. My bad.

I'll take my shoes off on long flights as long as I'm in my seat. If I go to the bathroom or leave my seat, the shoes are definitely back on!!

I do not care what circumstances or excuses, wear shoes. If you choose to wear sandals, take them off, throw them away, and wear actual shoes.

I always did, right up until I used the toilet and stepped in someone’s urine on the floor. Yuk.

I’ve never even thought about doing that. I would want something on my feet.

Yes, as long as you don’t cause a noticeable odor or put those feet next to/out in the aisle. Some exceptions for children.

How long is the flight? I’m not going to endure a 15 hour flight with shoes on. I’ve always flown 1st Class and never had a problem or complaint. Keep your feet clean and wear clean socks and newer footwear.

I don’t think it matters as long as they smell nice and you stay in your seat. Definitely put your shoes on if you’re going to walk around.

Slippers are not the same as bare feet on the floor. I wouldn’t suggest you looking at the pouch where the emergency instructions are - pig moms leave dirty diapers in there too! Do not eat off the tray table - people put their bare feet on that too ๐Ÿคฎ

I thought the question was about taking off shoes. Most people, me included, wear shoes AND socks, so I cannot assume shoeless means bare feet.

chickencookie
01/30/19 10:27 am

What if you travel in summer? Women wear sandals. A lot of men don’t wear socks either.

HoosierFan
01/30/19 10:34 am

Yes, but the question is about going without shoes, not going barefoot, and I don’t think it’s accurate to assume 100% of people wear shoes without socks.

chickencookie
01/30/19 7:39 am

No that’s gross. No one wants to see your bare feet especially on the tray tables! If you don’t believe me check out “passengershaming” on Instagram. People are pigs and bare feet on a plane falls in that category.

Is there still room for that? Or if you want to take off a shoe, you need to put it in the overhead bin, which means you have to check another piece of luggage?

It’s okay since you’re required to take them off for security check. That is until they realize that foot odor is the real shoe bomb.

It’s bad enough to just wear socks, but the people that are barefoot, their chances for some infection goes up 500%.
