They should use up the aborted babies first.

Why would anyone NOT be? They're discarded embryos from fertility treatments anyway. Might as well use them!

07/05/13 9:26 pm

Yes yes yes!! I would gladly donate eggs to stem cell research for MS. I have it and if I could help scientists find a cure, I will do all I can!

Stem cells can be used without also using abortions to obtain them.

Lol. They don't come from abortions. They come from discarded embryos in IVF that didn't take.

I'm so confused why federal funding is such a bad thing. I work for a National Laboratory, our work is funded by the federal government. There are no private Particle Accelerators out there that even compete with my current lab. With over 2000

madolesen Nerdfighteria
07/03/13 4:26 am

Employees and (about) 10000 users that use the lab every year, public funding keeps the transparency and the public access open. Without federal funding, the top quark would not have been discovered in the US when it had been. Keep finding science!!!

07/05/13 8:04 pm

It's called crowding out. Not only was their science before it was federally funded - but it wad better. But even were this not the case, why should people be robbed to fund research? Sorry, you're not a scientist - you're a thief.

The federal govt's job is stated in the constitution... I'm pretty sure commercial research isn't listed.

Actually, my education allowed me to read and understand the question. The question is whether tax payer $$ should be used. I can't speak for everyone that voted no, but I can tell you that my no vote is for keeping the government out of it.

It's a better investment than medicine (which is chemicals) so do you not support any tax money going toward more advanced medical research than the traditional pill?

jrrob CT
07/02/13 2:49 pm

No. The government should not be investing money in any endeavors. Lower taxes and incentivize private industry. Private industry will always "always" be more efficient, and be more successful with their results.
I'm for getting result.

07/05/13 8:06 pm

Sorry, but it's you whose in the dark here. i said no because I oppose Federal funding for everything. Private science is better, and better when not competing with an unlimited supply of stolen money, and science for political gain.

When "stem cell research" was "ended" by the government, everyone began politician a non-issue. What wasn't reported is that the embryonic stem cells which were already harvested could be cultivated practically to infinity. There was no shortage..

kehvn Towson, MD
06/30/13 8:16 pm

What people fail to also get from the news is that advances using adult stem cells far outweigh those of embryonic stem cells.

Adult stem cells have seen tremendous practical value and embryonic have not. This is just another progressive attack.

singkitty In the cloud
06/30/13 7:21 pm

Are people really so ignorant they think the only way to harvest these stem cells are from a fetus? It's called an umbilical cord people and guess what it contains....stem cells. You can donate them to science rather than letting it become medical waste.

07/01/13 3:36 pm

kitty - Do you know the difference between embryonic stem cells and umbilical stem cells? I'm not ignorant; I have used (mouse) embryonic stem cells in research. There is a difference. Both may be useful, but you do not get "these stem cells" from an umbilical cord. Nor are embryonic stem cells...

susanr Colorado

Actually, what many don't understand, is that "embryonic" cells are not all embryos. We have stem cells in our bone marrow that can be used and harms no one. The mere term freaks people out. I do medical research and this can save lives, many at that. And I am a die hard republican.
