Are you in favor of Federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research?
It seems like an obvious decision. We can use stem cells to regrow tissues and save lives of people who are already alive. If you think we should save what isn't really alive yet and let someone else die then you need to re evaluate your priorities.
Ok, from this time forth....
As of now, there is no proper substitution for embryonic stem cells, for most applications. We are working to change that. Until then, it is the technology.
Embryonic stem cells can save lives. Period.
Private organizations could have put a man on the moon too, right? Did they? Have they yet?
Yeah, let's just get crazy with that slippery slope fallacy! Good call!
After all, scientists do what they do to hurt people. That's their style.
hvp - Embryonic stems cells are not made from 6-week embryos. They CANNOT be. They are made from a very early embryo 4-5 days after fertilization containing 50-150 cells. There is no brain, no heart, no organized tissues AT ALL. They are UNDIFFERENTIATED cells.
Great idea. Maybe regress to 19th century standards while we are at it.
Do you understand how reality works? We don't have money? Are you serious? When has this country ever NOT spent for, well, anything?
Dear Susanr - CHILL THE F OUT about the SOH 2.1 update. Holy crap, we can check our app store notifications for ourselves. CHILL with the billion comments about it
I am in favor of private funding for stem cell research.
OUR government doesn't have any money!! Everything we say yes to means that much more debt or taxes.
When will it end?!
Really. Please. Let me know. I work in the field. Please, enlighten me.
RJ is back! He's kicking ass and taking names!
We will never, ever have a balanced budget...that's for a reason.
Yeah, good one.
Uh, what's the Yuan pegged to again? Oh yeah, the dollar. That's right.
No they can't.
Where could they take it, what's the worst thing they could do with stem cells, take your tin foil hat off.
You are flat out wrong and are doing nothing more than parroting BS you regurgitate from listening to pundits. It is utterly false.
Are you in favor of Federal funding.....no.
Can we stop with the stupid retarded "the USA is bankrupt and doesn't have any money" bllsht? You are not correct. The premise that we run our country like you run your finances is not correct.
Because it is an investment that returns more money than we spend on it, all the while. Improves the.ives of people everywhere, including Americans.
Oh, yeah, that tiny percentage of the federal budget that goes to science is really burning a hole in the country's finances.
I swear, some of you live in a weird alternate universe, devoid of things called facts.
I wish there was a way of restricting you to only dirt roads
How about this: if you object to its use, you don't have to receive its life-saving benefits.
It's how I roll.
I am I biotech. I work for a company that is on the fore-front of non-embryonic stem cell research. I invest in my work, as well as in companies that do this type of work.
Why must everything be "federally funded."
Wait, what? Hasn't been proven....are you a scientist?
Better than private funding. I shudder to think where corporations would take it.
Hi to you too. I realize it looks a tad obnoxious, but I'm taking to people who are stuck in 2.0-land. They're seeing only 3-4 comments in each of the SOH polls. I'm willing to help them get updated, if that doesn't put you out too much.
Do you really think stem cell research is a little project?
And also why the government is broke, because they don't look at cost vs benefits.
Yes. Yes. And another yes.
I have an education in finance and have worked many years in finance. Thanks I understand ROI.
Wow. "No" vote gets a moron award winner.
RJ, I did not need to Google it. I have study economic for decades and traded currencies. You are the person spinning around this site claiming to be the expert in everything. You are the negative person.
Stem cell PRIVATELY funded, yes.
No wonder why we're dying in debt. It's ridiculous to assume the federal government should pay for everything, especially with its record of inefficiencies.
Yes, you say things that blatantly and obviously fail in the light of reality. Thank you for your admission.
How is it unethical? They are cells.
The ability to generate tissues from "pluripotent" somatic cells is extremely limited. It's not even close.
Susan, you don't owe this turd sandwich an explanation.
The federal government 1) cannot afford to pay for this or many other things. 2) should not be involved in this area, except to facilitate an environment that does not impede private companies from pursuing private research.
Your whopping contribution? What should your tax dollars be going toward, in your opinion?
A fundamental premise in business finance. Look it up.
We spend a some money up front. We make more in return. This concept is why rich people rich and you are not.
Please. Boo hoo. You live in the best time in the best conditions in the best country of all time. And you go out of your way to find reasons to be miserable over bllsht non-issues. Pathetic.
I answered yes, but in principle, this is the best response ... The debt isn't an imaginary thing. It's going to significantly lower the quality of our grandchildren's lives and leave them with an unfair burden.
Wait, what was that again?
And adult stem cells HAVE saved lives.
Actually, what many don't understand, is that "embryonic" cells are not all embryos. We have stem cells in our bone marrow that can be used and harms no one. The mere term freaks people out. I do medical research and this can save lives, many at that. And I am a die hard republican.
Sounds like you need to chill the fck out, snivel btch.
Ha ha ha! Oh, how this EXACT scenario is going to play out. The irony is...well...ironic.
