P.s. "runner's high" is definitely not exclusively achieved with running ;)

I just knew there would be people arguing about what kind of exercise is "better" for your body. With this obesity epidemic, how about encouraging others to MOVE in any way they prefer instead of trying to come up with "reasons" not to?!

running sandals from invisibleshoe.com last November and they do great! I can get into restaurants without anyone having second thoughts, I don't feel squeamish squashing bugs with my feet, and they're so near barefoot (4mm of rubber total) that when I run on gravel, I wish…

@marathonmik sweet! Awesome. I hear they make good minimalist shoes. Unfortunately I haven't gotten to try any of theirs or Newtons yet :( Someday… I started my version of the barefoot thing barefoot (duh), but then it got so annoying that no one liked me not wearing shoes, so I got a pair of…

I HATE running/jogging. I prefer ellipticals because it's less stress on my bad ankle. I can only run for like ten minutes, and then I can barely walk for the rest of the day.

jms & fiat - I switched to Merrell Barefoot shoes last year due to knee pain from my many surgeries and have completed a marathon and five halfs this year so far with no pain. I run about 35-40 miles per week and live every minute of it.

Yea but he's just started this a few months ago. He's a freshman in high school. Then again the cross country coach is a retard anyway

cpayne- just because ONE friend happened to get tendinitis, doesn't make running bad for everyone. I would bet that your friend didn't do much stretching. Most people do a little but don't realize how important it truly is to keeping muscles and ligaments in good shape. And tendinitis can be cured.

Fiat- WooHoo!!! Go Newtons!! They really are the first running shoe I've truly loved. I tolerated other brands. I didn't really mean calluses, I just couldn't think of any other word! I swear it's my age! Bwahahaha
My sister is doing the Montreal IronMan in August!! She did Coeur d'Alene ....

necessary for distance running barefoot. Btw, with your Newtons, remember that last year's Hawaii Ironman course record was broken by the first place winner who was wearing Newtons. :P Craig Alexander 8:03:56 full 140.6 mile race 2.4 mi swim, 110 mi bike, and 26.2 mi run…

@jms actually callouses aren't really necessary. Take a look at an interview with Ken Bob Saxon (I think it was NBC) on YouTube while he was training for yet another Boston Marathon barefoot. He talks about callouses in it, and shows his feet as proof that toughened skin is all that's actually…

@FACTUM2LUX Give yourself some more time and you'll be doing marathons! As long as your biomechanics are good, that's no big deal. In fact, you might even ramp it up some eventually! Lol

Fiat- my dr said that with the way my feet are formed, I should be fine with barefoot running because you're not striking on the heel and rolling to your toes. That's where problems start for me. I remember running barefoot as a kid. My feet are wimpy now, though. Gotta build up calluses again!!
