Nope. He was an Israelite by heritage and an Egyptian by birth. Neither Islam nor Christianity existed at the time, and as the Kingdom of Judah had not yet been established, he could not be considered Jewish either.

Because someone practices in accordance to a certain religion does not mean they ascribe to it. Many say Jesus was Muslim because he prayed, fasted and lived in the Muslim tradition. However, being that his proclaimed faith was Jewish and therefore..

No, Moses was a Jew. Jesus was not even conceived in the time of Moses.

This is an honest question, doesn't Christian teaching hold that Jesus is/was eternal? Or was that misrepresented to me or am I misinterpreting?

skinner Jersey City
10/23/14 3:11 pm

There's no simple answer to that because it gets into ideas regarding the trinity. My thought is that Moses was a Jew because of his relation to Abraham and because Christ had not yet been brought into this world to deliver the new word of God.

GlockMan1 Alabama

CORRECT. JESUS is and was eternal. Still is today. He is part of the Trinity of God.

Cowboy let me know that until Moses was given the Ten Commandments, everyone was murdering all the dang time! But then they stopped. So I should be grateful to Christians, otherwise I too would be murdered.

cowboy Doors of Perception
10/23/14 11:19 am

Kermie seems to think that without moral legislation, humans wouldn't murder each other. That society would, without law, behave themselves, which is absurd.

Yeah cowboy, we need to thank Christian Moses that no one ever commits murder anymore

10/23/14 11:32 am

People murdered before and after the Ten Commandments. The Commandments simply codified moral laws that were already written in people's hearts.

Hebrews 10:16

But since people are bad we break the law all of the time.

cowboy Doors of Perception
10/23/14 11:34 am

Ah but Kermie's point was that laws don't have to be moral. That people would just behave themselves. Which is nonsense.

Arananthi Literal Ninja

Cowboy, society had law long before we created God in our own image and likeness.

Aran: The idea of God goes back to well before recorded history.

cowboy: I agree that's preposterous. A man-made law contrary to natural law is unjust and invalid. Aquinas fleshes out that issue.

Arananthi Literal Ninja
10/23/14 4:42 pm

I think you'd have a very hard time convincing anyone with a brain that there's evidence of God existing before humans starting writing things down. Especially when the name Yahweh, in it's first recorded iterations, was a place name, not a god.

Arananthi Literal Ninja
10/23/14 4:44 pm

Similarly, Aquinas' arguments regarding natural law are based on some fundamental assumptions about what 'nature' means that are pretty easy to argue with, so that's hardly an ironclad source. tinyurl.com/mv7qjuj

Anyone with a brain? Like archeologists and anthropologists? There is clear evidence of primitive man performing burial rituals that imply belief in an afterlife. You're clearly so biased by your worldview that you're overlooking obvious facts.

thebarr

And the idea of natural law and an objective good comes from countless philosophers. Aquinas is just one.

There is no Christian or Jewish Heaven. And Hell will contain Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, atheists and even a lot of people who go to church every Sunday, sing in the choir and call themselves Christians.

cowboy Doors of Perception

GlockMan1 Alabama

INCORRECT. No one is in HELL yet. They will all be cast together with Satan and the Anti Christ and all those who followed him.

scottstots Georgia
10/23/14 5:20 pm

Where are they storing all these dead souls? Purgatory? Do the saved go to heaven immediately or are they in the waiting room too? How are those prior to Christ getting to heaven without living knowledge of the savior?

GlockMan1 Alabama
10/23/14 6:43 pm

When you die, you go before the Lord and the Book of Life is opened. If your name is there, you are ushered in Heaven. If it is not there, you go into HADES ( this is not HELL) until Judgment Day. Even the RIGHTEOUS will be Judged that day.

GlockMan1 Alabama
10/23/14 6:48 pm

People were indeed SAVED before Christ. Ephesians 1:4-5. How were they saved without Christ? Ephesians 2:8-8. They were saved "by GRACE" through their FAITH. They same way we are SAVED in 2014.

GlockMan1 Alabama
10/23/14 6:52 pm

Purgatory is not mentioned in the Bible and was a concept of the Catholic Church. If you paid the church enough money, they could PRAY you out of Purgatory which is not Scriptural and is one of the reasons for Martin Luther's REFORMATION.

scottstots Georgia
10/23/14 8:12 pm

But those before Christ don't go to christian heaven right? Because there were no christians before Christ, so they're like in Jewish heaven. How about all the Jews after Christ, they must be in hades. I bet that place is slap full of restless souls
