We learn lessons everyday, whether they are big or small. What is a lesson you have learned from being on SoH?
Some people are more interested expressing and justifying their biases, no matter how hateful, than they are in rational discussion.
I've learned that I'll need to check myself frequently after a Republican wins the presidency in 2016 to ensure that I'm not like the current batch of Democrats who are unable to see the damage MrO is doing to our country.
I gotta pick my battles
That the users on SOH are more informed and engaged with what is going on than the average American.
But there are also many thoughtful caring individuals in the world.
And, some things and people just should not be taken seriously .
Some conversations are better off not had.
Just because someone is too sensitive, doesn't mean you should hold back. However, you should think about how your friends might feel.
Too many people like nothing more than to be offended.
Don't engage in multiple debates at once... Lol
To not always take people so seriously.
That people from basically the same cultural background can have outrageously differing opinions, including ones so shockingly extreme I've never heard before when talking with real life acquaintances.
I don't think so. I don't give into the PC police. There's a fine line between having a good time and being disrespectful. Some people don't have the sense of humor that God gave an any.
I have learned to not just sit back and agree with my dad and his very strong political opinions, I have actually learned to express my different opinions.
Don't you just hate it when people can't take a joke? So frustrating. I have a story about this, but I don't think my friend would like me to share.
I was going to say, a lot of people get up in arms very quickly, and it's important to be considerate of that.
Oh come on lands who doesn't want to spend 12 hours in a comment war that will be forgotten in 5 hours
There are people out there that actually care about me ❤️
I've also learned so much about politics & just the attitudes of certain people about some things. I now hate politics & political issues more than ever 😂
Kenna I don't even know you at allllll and I care about you, never think that people don't! People always care :)
Also yeah, this app probs contributed from me ditching my poli sci major...
Well ok, I'd feel sorry about that. You don't always realize when you're being insensitive and I think it's important to make it a priority to keep an open mind that pretty much everyone sometimes is insensitive, even unintentionally.
Awe ❤️ Thank you.
That's where we differ in ideology then!
I think we have to respect that everyone has a right to their opinion & to express it in a civil manner whether we agree with or respect the opinion or the person. If we don't, then the right to free speech doesn't work.
This offends me
Really... I don't pick battles I make battles
Well. There you go. Lol
SOH has also shaped my views on certain issues, and now if my dad makes comments on certain issues that I disagree with, I actually get really angry on the inside. I've definitely strayed away from some of my parents views.
Some people (cowboy) are so ingrained in their own beliefs (Glockman) that trying to convince them to change them (Chimama) will get you called everything from a pervert to a communist
Regarding your point, I really think if a person is offended by something, it's worth apologizing and moving on. We all have things that are important to us and it doesn't matter why - they should be respected however illogical it may seem.
Political just because you don't respect someone doesn't mean you shouldn't be polite to them
You got that right!
Political, when I first saw your second comment in this thread, it did appear to be about what we had discussed privately. I told you several times that Kay did not ask me to say anything & I thought we had resolved the issue until I saw that...
I have agreed to not mention your name to her at all after this episode because I know that she has a friendship with you which is fine with me.
Anyway, I'm really confused here. I didn't mention a single person's name nor did I provide details to a specific scenario. I would love more details about comments that I made, so I can provide the necessary details if I can.
You have to earn my respect.
I'm not saying that you called me deceitful, Bama.
My point is that my comment applies to a lot of scenarios. I now know the full story about the more important event. I have agreed to avoid Kay for obvious reasons.
For the record here, my comment does not apply to a specific occasion necessary. Do I believe the encounter earlier could apply? Sure, but you can't ignore the fact that I purposely did not call anyone out.
For the rest, it is no secret that I'm
Great question, BTW!!!
You wanna fight?
I thought I was the only one that enjoyed that
Can we unfollow threads? I feel like I'm in y'all's personal business where I shouldn't be 😁
Rland, other people here might help us stay somewhat in line. 😂
True that. A certain reverend come to mind...
What are your fathers views?
Bama is correct above. I would like to point out that I did not accuse you of that anymore throughout the day. I took Bama at her word because I trust her.
Kay, what makes you think that I'm talking about you here? I didn't mention anyone's name. This is just a strange thread to me.
Kor, I'm polite for the most part.
