We learn lessons everyday, whether they are big or small. What is a lesson you have learned from being on SoH?

Some people are more interested expressing and justifying their biases, no matter how hateful, than they are in rational discussion.

I've learned that I'll need to check myself frequently after a Republican wins the presidency in 2016 to ensure that I'm not like the current batch of Democrats who are unable to see the damage MrO is doing to our country.

That the users on SOH are more informed and engaged with what is going on than the average American.

But there are also many thoughtful caring individuals in the world.

And, some things and people just should not be taken seriously .

Just because someone is too sensitive, doesn't mean you should hold back. However, you should think about how your friends might feel.

That people from basically the same cultural background can have outrageously differing opinions, including ones so shockingly extreme I've never heard before when talking with real life acquaintances.

I don't think so. I don't give into the PC police. There's a fine line between having a good time and being disrespectful. Some people don't have the sense of humor that God gave an any.

I have learned to not just sit back and agree with my dad and his very strong political opinions, I have actually learned to express my different opinions.

Don't you just hate it when people can't take a joke? So frustrating. I have a story about this, but I don't think my friend would like me to share.

I was going to say, a lot of people get up in arms very quickly, and it's important to be considerate of that.

I've also learned so much about politics & just the attitudes of certain people about some things. I now hate politics & political issues more than ever 😂

Well ok, I'd feel sorry about that. You don't always realize when you're being insensitive and I think it's important to make it a priority to keep an open mind that pretty much everyone sometimes is insensitive, even unintentionally.

I think we have to respect that everyone has a right to their opinion & to express it in a civil manner whether we agree with or respect the opinion or the person. If we don't, then the right to free speech doesn't work.

SOH has also shaped my views on certain issues, and now if my dad makes comments on certain issues that I disagree with, I actually get really angry on the inside. I've definitely strayed away from some of my parents views.

Some people (cowboy) are so ingrained in their own beliefs (Glockman) that trying to convince them to change them (Chimama) will get you called everything from a pervert to a communist

Regarding your point, I really think if a person is offended by something, it's worth apologizing and moving on. We all have things that are important to us and it doesn't matter why - they should be respected however illogical it may seem.

Political, when I first saw your second comment in this thread, it did appear to be about what we had discussed privately. I told you several times that Kay did not ask me to say anything & I thought we had resolved the issue until I saw that...

My point is that my comment applies to a lot of scenarios. I now know the full story about the more important event. I have agreed to avoid Kay for obvious reasons.
