If, while working, you receive a complaint about the company you work for, do you take it seriously or just pretend to care so the person will stop talking to you?

Depends on what is. Most of the complaints are repetitive and really not the fault of any particular company we represent.

If I took every complaint about the company I work for seriously, I'd have a full time job. It happens at least once a day, you get used to it and pretend to care.

Yes. I feel the same way. Also, most of the time they're complaining to the wrong person--which anyone with a brain can figure out.

This tells me two things: 1) they just want to complain to someone in person, as if whatever they're upset about is your fault and 2) resolution/change is not their motivator.

I'm genuine, but that is rather easy for me. If it's a completely ridiculous complaint - I may have to press myself harder to be genuine in my concern for their problem(s).

Because of my position, I get complaints more than others in my workplace. I've become pretty good at differentiating the valid complaints from the bullshit ones.

Depends if it's a real complaint or reoccurring one. If its just one person bitching about something insignificant, piss off. But of course, I'd say piss off in a nice, polite way with a smile.
