You voluntarily pay rent, but you don’t voluntarily give your money to the government. It’s basically like the government owns the fruits of your labor because you’re forced to give it to them.
If your homeless you don't have to pay anything to the government, and you are voluntarily living in this country. You could live in the ocean or Antarctica if you don't want to pay taxes.
here, if you don’t like the tax regime you can work through legislative channels to change it if enough people agree with you - or you can move to another country with a completely different structure. you have options to change or not live by these specific agreed upon societal standards. that is not even close to slavery, where one is forced and has no options to change or move.
Not so. If you live here you are forced to pay taxes. Slaves also had the option to escape from slavery and many did so.
Taxes are indeed a form of slavery.
I didn’t say they were the same. I’m saying that taxation is a form of slavery and it is. At one time African slaves were an “agreed upon societal standard”.
i agree that was an agreed upon standard - and if you were a slave then (as you view the tax paying public today) you had no choices like you have today. risk your life to attempt to escape and hopefully make it to a jurisdiction that would not further enslave or kill you is essentially the ‘choice’ you note slaves had. not even close. given the choices you have to change or move the agreed upon standard it’s nothing alike.
Certainly it is in that the government owns the fruits of your labor through forced taxation. You don’t have a choice but to pay the taxes and, just like the slaves, if you move you only move from one level of slavery to another. In fact, the more you comment, the more I’m convinced they are more alike than I initially thought.
It's not a form of slavery. Technically, we're getting a "service" (a term which I use very loosely) from paying our taxes. Slaves don't get anything back from their work. As long as we are not working against our will and for nothing, we cannot be slaves in any form.
Yes, the slaves received food, water, board and medical care for their services. But trying to match this exactly to slavery in the old South is a logical fallacy. I never claimed they were exactly the same. The poll question asks if taxes are slavery and taxation is indisputably a form of slavery. When someone owns the fruits of your labor you are their slave.
