I'm packing my gear for a backpacking trip in the Crazy Mountains of Montana. Have you ever completely left behind civilization and technology for multiple nights in the wilderness?
Yes, loved every minute of it. Hated to go back & couldn't wait to do it again!
No I can't say that I have I hope you have an awesome time.
Thanks :-D its gonna be great
No but I think about it all the time and plan to when I move to Colorado! I'm jealous!! :b I lived in Montana for about a year and a half when I was younger, beautiful place
Make the move! It's so beautiful all up and down the Rockies.
No but I want to, think it will be.
Do it! It's so much fun.
All the time
First 3 months of deployment. No running water no hot food no shower no TV, cell phone, or Internet. After 3 months we had showers and hot food.
Yep. Last summer on the Appalachian Trail for a few days. Very interesting. The first night I slipped on a wet root, did a forward split (imagine a 14 year old guy with a backpack doing that—weird) and bruised my knee. Needless to say (haha)…
my first night on the Appalachian Trail was interesting. I had to be helped the remaining 200 meters to the campsite and was limping around trying to set up the tent—in the rain! The rest of the week was equally odd but fun.
Hope you have a good time!
Youch! But that sounds like a great trip in spite of the slipping incident.
I'll go sailing for as many days or weeks as you want, sleeping on board and whatnot but camping is just not my favorite, I'll do it for a night but no more
Sailing! I love it - I need to find me someone with a boat to take me out.
My sailboat is in Antibes in France but you are more than welcome to come with me doll!
I'm sold! I love sailing and the ocean, I have a feeling you'd be great to sail with.
I hope that I'm great to sail with, and I sure am fun to sail with because I like to make the experience a loathing, wind powered party, but safety first of course :-)
A *FLOATING* wind-powered party haha
That definitely sounds great to me :) I love the idea of a floating wind-powered party!
My dad have me a knife and a 22. And sent me out in the woods alone for 3 days when I was 12. He was shadowing me but I didn't know it at the time. It taught me a lot about survival.
That's crazy awesome!
Like SERE training. Only for 12 year olds. Lol
Lol pretty much. It was either survive or die. So I thought lol. I learned a lot about survival at a young age. And now I can survive with only a knife if almost any climate or environment.
I'm trying to get out this July. I want to leave Virginia, though.
Not for a long time, and i'm not sure the Scottish Highlands count. You could probably take the whole of scotland, drop it into a wilderness area in the USA and not find it for awhile. That's intimidating.
That's a fantastic mental image - and probably true :-D
I love getting away from civilian life and hanging out with the bears, coyotes & crickets. Also, no phone reception or wi-fi, it's heaven.
It is for sure!
Shouldn't be coyotes, might be bears - either way I am totally excited!
As a kid went with my parents and another group on a week long hike though the Appalachian mountains...I think it was there (it was more than 40 years ago)
They should call the appellation mountains hills now lol
Very nice! I'm jealous. Miss Montana. Have fun and be careful up there. If you go through Livingston, Mt good place to eat is at the rib and chop house.
I haven't been to that rib and chop - but the one on Miles City is great too
You ever been to red lodge? Love that area
Definitely a great area. Used to ski there.
Ya. I miss it.
I'm not an idiot. ;)
Good luck though.
Thanks :-) its gonna be awesome!
I was in the Crazy Mountains 2 years ago. It's beautiful there.
I have seriously never found a more beautiful area. Biased perhaps, I love the Pacific Northwest, but the Crazies are just breath taking.
What? No SOH?!?!?
Relaxation can't be that important.
(Seriously, have fun & be safe)
I know!!! It's gonna be so hard, I'm going to be soooo far behind when I get back. And we're only going for a couple days!! Lol.
Have fun! And be safe! And remember, if a bear is chasing you, you don't have to outrun the bear, just don't be the slowest person running away from it ;)
Haha true. I'm pretty sure I can outrun her, so I'm good ;)
But we're also going with my dad, he'll be packing heat lol.
Often. I'm glad to see you'll be fishing - I consider some light fishing gear to be almost as essential as a map and a compass. Sharing a favorite spot with a friend who's never been is the best!
I agree! Map, compass, rod and reel - check, check, check. I'm so excited to show her this gorgeous area.
It's an area I haven't spent much time in, other than riding the Beartooth Hwy from Red Lodge to Gardiner a half-dozen times, but it's so beautiful from the road I bet it's awesome from the trail. Have fun, be safe, catch some fish :)
Rock climbing trip up near Mt. Whitney. Let's just say a rumor spread about a psychotic man living in the outhouse, and nothing ended well.
Haha, that rumor would certainly make things less comfortable
Da' best! Have fun!
Thanks :-D its an amazing site we are headed to.
Yes. I absolutely love it. It is my r&r and I need to do this soon.
Definitely! Come join us! Nothing beats Gallatin National Forest.
matadornetwork.com/trips/9-montana-backpacking-trips-that-will-blow-your-mind/ we are going to Cottonwood Creek
10-14 days would be the best for me.
Oh man, I did that long once - we took some horses on a pack trip into the Bob Marshall's, it was incredible.
That would be awesome. I like the idea of gathering food daily(hunting/fishing) would be a blast
We will definitely be fishing :) we are careful to go camping outside of hunting season though.
i haven't, but it's cool that you are doing that. please post pics when you get back! (unless you're not taking a camera...)
I have some on my art site from the last time I went. But I'll try to get some good ones on this trip.
You will love it!
I'm taking one of my best friends up to my favorite lake, she's never gone backpacking before. I'm excited to see what she thinks.
Be safe but have fun.
We will, I'm bringing my dad :-D
But last time I left civilization behind we didn't even have cordless phones. :-)
Definitely been a while. Time for another trip!
Have a great time!
