I'm packing my gear for a backpacking trip in the Crazy Mountains of Montana. Have you ever completely left behind civilization and technology for multiple nights in the wilderness?

Have fun! And be safe! And remember, if a bear is chasing you, you don't have to outrun the bear, just don't be the slowest person running away from it ;)

I love getting away from civilian life and hanging out with the bears, coyotes & crickets. Also, no phone reception or wi-fi, it's heaven.

My dad have me a knife and a 22. And sent me out in the woods alone for 3 days when I was 12. He was shadowing me but I didn't know it at the time. It taught me a lot about survival.

First 3 months of deployment. No running water no hot food no shower no TV, cell phone, or Internet. After 3 months we had showers and hot food.

Not for a long time, and i'm not sure the Scottish Highlands count. You could probably take the whole of scotland, drop it into a wilderness area in the USA and not find it for awhile. That's intimidating.

Youch! But that sounds like a great trip in spite of the slipping incident.

I'm taking one of my best friends up to my favorite lake, she's never gone backpacking before. I'm excited to see what she thinks.

I agree! Map, compass, rod and reel - check, check, check. I'm so excited to show her this gorgeous area.

Often. I'm glad to see you'll be fishing - I consider some light fishing gear to be almost as essential as a map and a compass. Sharing a favorite spot with a friend who's never been is the best!

Yep. Last summer on the Appalachian Trail for a few days. Very interesting. The first night I slipped on a wet root, did a forward split (imagine a 14 year old guy with a backpack doing that—weird) and bruised my knee. Needless to say (haha)…

my first night on the Appalachian Trail was interesting. I had to be helped the remaining 200 meters to the campsite and was limping around trying to set up the tent—in the rain! The rest of the week was equally odd but fun.

Very nice! I'm jealous. Miss Montana. Have fun and be careful up there. If you go through Livingston, Mt good place to eat is at the rib and chop house.

It's an area I haven't spent much time in, other than riding the Beartooth Hwy from Red Lodge to Gardiner a half-dozen times, but it's so beautiful from the road I bet it's awesome from the trail. Have fun, be safe, catch some fish :)

As a kid went with my parents and another group on a week long hike though the Appalachian mountains...I think it was there (it was more than 40 years ago)

I'll go sailing for as many days or weeks as you want, sleeping on board and whatnot but camping is just not my favorite, I'll do it for a night but no more
