I work in special education, so my job and personality kind of make me be active in youth activities, special olympics, local politics and the like.

In Poland I was, not in America because I just don't feel as connected to them as I would in Poland

Scout troop leader & member of local Environment & Sustainability Council, a citizen commission that advises the City Council on such matters (one of about 12 different such councils in the city that each handle a different subject area - environment/sustainability, transportation, planning, etc. - and act as a liason between the population and the City Council on matters in its purview).

I'm no Clint Eastwood, but most of my neighbors are new(ish) not very social themselves, so everybody just sticks to themselves. Every now and again someone comes to the door, girl scout cookies, car washes, whatever. I just

I never thought of it that way. Makes sense. I always want to partronize my local businesses first so they can continue to stay in business. I read the question as someone who is a philanthropist, a constant volunteer, which I am not.

Not really. We've helped fill sandbags when one of the neighbors had a creek that was flooding, and we leave a bag of canned goods at the town food bank every few months, but there isn't a lot of activity in my community to get involved in, or all that many people in it, for that matter. And that's a good thing.
