Is calling somebody "retarded", due to a political disagreement, an insult?

Definitely and a bad debating tactic. I immediately lose respect when name calling starts and assume they just can't support their point or they are jerks.

It shows the level of maturity in the person who made the remark.

Apparently, in Oregon, that's taken as a compliment.

Specially to a person, with learning issues

Liberal ideology contributes to the retardation of our culture. Only the simple and/or delusional, outside of evil, firmly follow its doctrine. So it's not an insult, rather a factual statement.

No, it's a cheat code for SOH that makes you automatically win the argument. It's often used as a last resort once any other chance of winning has been lost.

It's insulting and offensive to mentally challenged people.

I think retarded is going the way the word idiot goes. It's not used anymore to describe mental retardation, solely as an insult.

It's both an insult and a rhetorical figure called hyperbole, which still makes it an insult but not as much as when uttered in earnest.

Yes, that is most certainly intended as a derogatory comment.

I don't think any intelligent person could say it's not an insult.

I don't see how it could be anything but an insult.
