Inspired by Torfin and Kermie: If a woman keeps her maiden name after marriage, is this a rejection of her husband?
No. Its just a name. Names don't define people... Unless its Champaign or Lexus.
My wife uses her maiden name ... she asked me once we got married but I think I can never do that for anyone (change my name/identity); I would never ask her to do that for me. Besides her last name rhymes with a lot of words I can tease her all day.
No. I took his, despite loving my maiden, because he made a good case for us picking his name over mine. We wanted the same last name, so we'd both have the same and the same as our children. Which I certainly prefer.
A rejection of his name and a decision that the family won't have a single, unifying identity.
My husband insisted I keep mine. I use it interchangeably with my married name. My husband knows how much I love my maiden name.
I wish I would have. But back in the 70s I didn't know any better.
I am proud to say that I never have nor will I ever refer to myself as Mrs. Husbands name.
My oldest sister kept her maiden name, but she regrets it because she's tired of the people thinking they're living together. She's been with him for 20+ years and I'd think people would figure that out by now
I would be kinda offended. She'll take your genitals and half your stuff, but not your name? Ouch.
That's the couple's decision. And hopefully, they arrive at it mutually.
What? Hell no.
No, but I hope my wife takes my name. I like my last name. :P
Not necessary, though a name is a unifying factor, there can be legitimate reason for not sharing the same name.
Is it a rejection if a man keeps his?
No. A woman is not property. She can keep her maiden name, her family name, without it reflecting her feelings for her husband. I think someone who feels that way has a very shallow view of love.
Inge with the logic bomb
I headdesked so hard when I saw that comment. My mother kept her maiden name and she's been happily married to my father for twenty-four years. I've never seen two people love each other as much as they do. Honestly, they're adorable.
Yeah that guy was... Interesting.
