Hotels at the Olympics have been said to lack some of the following: wifi, door knobs, locks, beds, heat, hot water, clean water, any water, toilets, ceilings, phones, and electrical outlets. Unacceptable? Or whiny expectations of spoiled westerners?

who gives a shit about wifi? I can live without a shower (bath), toilet (just plug yer nose and use an outhouse) and no beds, but no hot water, door Knobs (privacy?) is unacceptable. they could've been a bit more ready

3 weeks without a shower? Talk about plugging your nose

They had so much to spend on the road to the olympic stadium, yet they can't afford to properly furnish a hotel?

It's Russia, what did you expect, a 5 star hotel.

I could do without doorknobs and shower curtains, but what I could really, really do without would be the shower surveillance cameras.

They must have run out of surveillance cameras to connect to the wires. Tough decision: the bathroom with the camera or risk electrocution to avoid being spied on in the shower. Hmmm...

No pillows for those that had the dirty beds. This is what Obama wants for our country. Bastard.

It's ridiculous and sad for the athletes who worked so hard to get there. I heard that they are asking Russian citizens to donate pillows and blankets...really?!

Toilets and beds in a country that was considered one of the most powerful for 40-50 years?

They are still one of the most powerful, they have lots of nukes :-)

Certain of those are unacceptable, but bear in mind, they're probably staying at a low end (Russian) hotel.

Nope! These are the hotels that American athletes and major media are staying!!

Low end? Reporters never stay in low end. You would think when the whole world is watching the water look like beer

alot of those are basic essentials. a responsible gov would not allow those places to be open during g an international event. it makes the entire area look like a slum

Some of it is whiny because what did they expect? It's Russia! But come on, you're expecting thousands of people in your town and you can't even get a damn door knob or clean running water? How embarrassing.

P.s. I bet the rooms are bugged and computers will be hacked as soon as they plug the wifi in.

Host cities of the Olympics are responsible to cater to all of the nations attending. Salt Lake City placed a lot of focus on welcoming the world with friendly accommodations.

Basic Russian hotels I stayed at in Moscow had the essentials. Not much to look at, no free toiletries, but clean and comfortable. Someone did harass us by phone in the middle of the night though, so I taught them a few words of English.

If I was just booking a room as a tourist any other time but the Olympics, I'd agree with you.
But For a major media event, when the hotels know that they're booking rooms for international news agencies, I don't think wifi is unreasonable.

The IOC decided to give Russia the olympics over South Korea or Austria (the only countries to put in bids). So you get what you deserve as those countries probably would've done better.
