The anti-Christian fascists at the ACLU have threatened to sue a small Indiana town unless they remove the cross that sits atop the town Christmas tree. Residents are now protesting to have the cross put back up. Who do you side with?
I'd join the townspeople in their protest gladly. Christmas is suppose to celebrate the birth of Christ and if bigoted idiots don't like it they can stay home and ignore it. Stop forcing your views on other people commies!
.
First of all, keep biases out of questions. Secondly, the ACLU is not fascist, nor are they "anti-Christian."
Now, let's get the facts straight:
•A resident of the town is suing with the assistance of the ACLU, they didn't just scour the country for town governments violating the constitution.
•The tree is on government property, so religious symbols don't belong there.
•"Tolerant" Christians have constantly harassed the ACLU's client who caused this thing.
Oh, please. Talk to me when Christians' freedoms are being curbed.
The fact of the matter is, no governmental entity can endorse any particular religion. That means no cross. For god's sake, you people would be losing your minds if this were the star and crescent.
So one person should be able to deny everyone in the town the right to freely express their religion. Congratulations, you just lost the right to complain about banning burqas without bring hypocritical.
Pretty poor news writing,
All it says is the ACLU is partnered with one of the town's residents, I didn't see anything that outlined why the suit was being brought
21st century where the majority of holidays have lost their religious meaning in favor of ruthless, heartless, and throbbing consumerism. Btw changing the origin story doesn't make it Christian if you ripoff the pagan celebration practices, too.
The only thing Christian about Christmas is the name and the backstory. Everything else? Trees, Gift-giving, wreaths, joy, mistletoe, mirth and dinners...all stolen from the pagan Yule and Saturnalia.
You wanna know how you get Santa Claus? Take 40% Saint Nicholas and fuse it with 50% Odin, throw in 10% nature deity for father Christmas, and there he is!
I'm not even Christian (Wiccan in fact) and I recognize the people should have their cross if that's what they want. It's not hurting anybody and it makes sense if it's a mostly Christian town.
It would be different if they were harassing others but I'll assume that's not the case. As long as they're not trying to stuff their beliefs down my throat or harass me for mine I see no issue, and just having a cross on top of a tree does neither of those.
You're right, the government and leftist organizations like the ACLU should be allowed to tell towns and their residents what they can and can't put on their Christmas trees. Police states are so progressive!
Nobody is saying they can't practice there religion. The fact is we live in a secular country and anyone can be any religion but the government can't go around promoting certain religions. The government can't put a menorah on public property as much as they can't put a cross on public property. If you want to put a cross on a tree then do it on your own tree.
Our government is secular but our culture is Christian. 75% of America identifies as Christian. Who exactly are you offending? This tree isn't even inside a government building, so your argument is moot. It's also concerning that you are advocating for a police state where leftists organizations like the ACLU can tell people what they can and can't put on their Christmas trees.
Seriously? I'm arguing for a police state because I say the government should remain secular. If the same town government was putting up Islamic symbols over town I'm sure that you would oppose it. And like I said you can put whatever you want on your own tree.
The tree is not in a government building. You are arguing for a police state when you say that the ACLU should get to decide what towns and the people in them can and can't put on their Christmas trees.
It's still on government property. I'm not sure why the fact that it's outside and not inside makes such a big difference to you. And like I've been saying you can put whatever you want on your own tree as long as it's not on public property.
Christmas trees in town squares have been a tradition in America for centuries. Nobody has had a problem with it until recently. Also, I see you're still advocating for a police state where the ACLU gets to decide what you can and can't put on your Christmas tree.
