Holocaust poll series question #6: Jews were murdered in large numbers, because they went passively to their deaths, without resistance. True or false?

there were many who didn't know they were heading to their deaths.

That is an excellent point!

Most went peacefully because by the time they were to be killed their spirits had been so surpressed they just didnt care anymore.

They fought as long as they had the strength to fight. They were starved, beaten, gassed and thrown in graves alive. Used for experiments and suffered horribly, all because they were Jewish. What a waste of human life. I find it disgusting.

Nope. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. They were defeated, but they fought back

There was some who escaped the camps as well. And would those who went into the woods to hide count as well?

06/03/14 1:43 pm

Yes, running away and hiding definitely count. It means they did whatever they could to save themselves. And some of those people did manage to survive.

Many fought and it wasn't just Jews. There were Gypsies killed as well.

Nicole and pompous, I did a poll on non-Jewish victims. It was the second in my series, on 5/29.

Pompous, I see that I credited 3 other people for the idea, but neglected to credit you. I apologize for that.

The reason I specifically only mentioned Jews in this poll was to counter what some people say, that Jews were too meek about being victims.

Other victims included homosexuals, handicapped, mentally ill, gypsies, Poles, Slavs, Communists, ...

... Jehovah's Witnesses and more. Please look at my poll history to find it. :)

The Holocaust is Exhibit A for why it is important that we fiercely defend our right to keep and bear arms.
Government-sponsored genocide becomes significantly more difficult when modern arms are widespread and easily accessible to the citizenry.

False. Many put up an ineffective fight against their gargantuan enemy.

That's not true. Whether they fought or not, they would've been killed. I'm sure some did so in order to protect the rest.

There were many pockets of resistance. People couldn't do much, but they did what they could.

I love the fact that I am getting a great education by you, Miss Alice. Thank you for the effort and info you are providing.

Thanks! This ends the series, but obviously, it doesn't end my interest in the subject.

Some people ran into the electric fence to avoid having a more painful death.

06/02/14 4:27 am

The answer is false. The largest and most well-known example of resistance was the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The Jews never had a chance, realistically, but they went out fighting.

Other, less dramatic examples of resistance, throughout ...

06/02/14 4:32 am

... the period of the Holocaust included:

- attempts to escape from the camps
- cultural resistance (keeping up education and religion in the ghettos)
- running away and hiding from authorities

06/02/14 4:33 am

- the Partisans (loosely organized militia groups who fought back)

I have a friend who's grandfather tossed his children out the apartment window to waiting arms so they would survive. He also survived.

The answer to the poll question is false. There was resistance. I will give some examples and more info tomorrow.

Today's poll is dedicated to the memory of Anne Frank. You all know the story. I don't need to repeat it here.

Have you had the opportunity to visit her house?

Yes. We were in Amsterdam two summers ago and we visited the Anne Frank house. Very interesting to see.
