Feb. 15 is “National Youth Enrollment Day,” a nationwide series of concerts, rallies and online campaigns aimed at convincing more "young and healthy" people to sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Will it work?
It's time for the socialists to man up and defend their record, approximately 200,000,000 people in the last century were directly murdered by their policies and some multiple of that indirectly,...
killed, and some multiple of that lives badly influenced. Joseph Conrad's subject in The Heart of Darkness was was chillingly correct.
It'll work as long as their parents pay for it, or the government subsidizes their cost.
Very sad if it doesn't work. Kids are really better than that.
Seriously? How much is this day going to cost me?
Let's be honest. I like the IDEA of social healthcare, but the chance that it will fly in America is not likely. If you have to run pr campaigns to sell the idea, it's not really as popular as you're making it out to be, is it?
They create ACA with a financial model that depends on young people signing up but at the same time lets them be on their parents plan until they are 26. What could possibly go wrong?
Young people don't care about health insurance unless they're covered by the parents plans.
"Young," under 26 stay on parent's ins. Those who can get job will be working trying to scrape $ for debt. Those not under parent's ins/over 26, can't afford premiums cuz = paying for 2-3 ppl's ins to cover sex change & artificial insemination, etc
You don't have to be real bright to figure out "I make x $ p/mth. PP&ACA cost y $ p/mth. Z $ left for school loans &/or personal expenses. Leaves me w/deficit. Uh. No. Tyvm." Or, I have no job. Can't get a job. How am I supposed to pay premiums???
What do you mean? Government currently spends way more than it takes in why shouldn't everyone else? Lol.
But throwing a tailgate party to tell people not to sign up for health care wasn't so crazy...
That is dumb and borderline creepy.
They really knew how to capture young people's attention- nothing gets teens excited like the word "enrollment" and "insurance".
The day after "burn all the economy books" day.
Democrats make up the best holidays!
Democrats would not know where to find an economy book to even burn one.
I hope they do! Lower the cost of healthcare for the rest of us. When I was young, I racked up a huge bill I couldn't & didn't pay when I was attacked by robbers.
Sounds like a good idea. Some young people are confused about what coverage they should have.
Not all young people will be covered under the parents plans. They can also get catastrophic care. They could also qualify because of Medicaid issues
Plus, young people paying high monthly rates are the only way the govt can hope to cover anyone else, let's be honest.
Sheep will follow the Master.
What a pathetic way to keep this joke of a healthcare law going. Don't ruin young people's lives, just get rid of the law.
How do you sell a crap sandwich?
Everyone gets a bite.
And the ridiculousness gets more ridiculous.
I thought the idea was to only get on the ACA if someone needs it.
Exactly. But the beurocrats sold is as affordable on the premise that theyd sucker the young and able to buy into it to offset the costs for others. Didnt work, big shocker.
Depends hopefully they are not tricked.
The ACA is doomed, and we will be left holding the bag in this as well.
Why would they sign up when they can stay on their parents plans until they're 26?
Sounds like Russia's lame attempt to coax citizens to have babies "National Kissing Day".
Haha, I had no idea this was a thing. Thanks :)
The news today stated that over 22,000 people have filed complaints including being overcharged for their ACA insurance but they can't get their problems fixed because the SITE DOES NOT WORK.
I am so sick and tired of all the propaganda that this administration is using. Thank goodness some of us are old enough to recognize it when we see it. It all started with he Obama poster from the first election. Total soviet propaganda.
Who is the modern-day Leni Riefenstahl producing the event? Sieg Obama! Heil Obama! Barack über alles!
Tying to Nazis? You belittle what the Nazis believed and did with comments like this. Speak to a holocaust survivor. You belittle their suffering with such comments
In this case it's justifiable. Socialists such as Nazis and Communists are directly responsible for maybe 200,000,000 deaths in the past century and indirectly a multiple of that figure. Ooohhhh, you're such nice caring people.
Not sure what you're saying, but pairing Obama to Nazi's in any way is a disgusting disrespect to anyone whi suffered the Nazi wrath
They'll hold out for the "free Starbucks with signup" desperation campaign. Really, of it were a good program, would all this be necessary?
I would make a joke about getting a free phone but they probably already got their obamaphone.
Maybe they should try a Groupon...
Why not call it what it is? "Push sales to get people to overpay for stuff they don't need because without their being fleeced the socialist program fails" concert.
What do you mean pay? It is supposed to be free. Lol
No, and I hereby direct my employees in the government to stop wasting my tax money on this crap.
Seriously. What is the current tally? $2 Billion spent to sell insurance to fewer than the 31 million uninsured ??? That's not even counting the subsidies.
Interesting comments on a Republican based health plan pioneered by a Rep gov. In Mass., written by the Conservative Heritage Foundation, and implemented as a compromise. What alternative has been offered except ERs or upwardly spiraling costs? Nada.
The Massachusetts plan was only statewide. Less people. Less details. Less lies.
And Romney is hardly the poster child of republican thought. He is a republican in name only. In policy he is a liberal.
He also resided as governor over a mega-liberal state where his constituents wanted a state-wide plan.
And yes, there have been alternatives. Harry Reid wont admit them. Obamacare attacks the problem at the wrong area where the perceived problem is a myth and not close to the root cause.
You can't find that many young people too stupid to realize what's in their own best interest. Wait'll they wake up to the generational war represented by the SSA.
Need young people to sign up or death spiral? I know let them sign up on their parents plan till they're 26!
Its success is a function of what criteria are defined to confirm the level of success.
Great, more conservative BS. I'll keep my clothes if I like my clothes, but I don't really like them so I dont wear them. Simple enough.
it's just a really bad analogy i made up smh
But I am naked, I don't really "get" clothes. Who wants polyester alloys touching them 24/7?
They don't need younger enrollees, they need healthy enrollees.
Some would sign up because they thought it was cool. But, would they pay their premiums.
Remember how successful Just Say No was... It would be optimistic to think this program would have 1/100th the impact of that.
Now the left will know how to "blame Bush" for the Oblundercare failure.
Or blame Fox News. Lol.
I bet if any of the anti-ACA clowns had a kid with leukemia who was turned down by every insurance company out there who'd rather save a little money than save someone's LIFE they'd be singing a different tune. Funny how that works.
Just so you know both sides of the issue, there are people who have cancer who cannot get the doctor they need, and they could not keep the insurance they like. So before you start talking about how wonderful the Unaffordable Healthcare Act is, you
...need to realize the consequences of this law.
....you need to stop ignoring the simple fact that profit-driven healthcare companies would deny people left and right for "pre-existing" conditions.
is it any wonder that the douche bag insurance companies would all of a sudden drop people who were already covered for expensive treatments they really didn't want to cover in the first place? Try a little independent thought.
Here is an independent thought. Two siblings with families. Both need health care. One family will have to pay quadruple with the ACA. The other will have benefits because of pre existing conditions. Good for some. Bad for others.
The one paying quadruple will opt not to pay anymore. Then no one but our govt debt is paying for the pre-existing conditions one. Then when family A has an issue, only then will they sign up. Bc why not.
Stilleto- So you mean market competitive then? Where companies have to compete with each other for business thus lowering costs and increasing value/service due to prisoners dilemma. Crazy how free markets work. Govt regulation impedes this.
Let's not forget that sometimes it takes government regulation for people to be decent human beings. Other times it takes court rulings to bring about that same end result. Don't be so naive to believe in the benevolence of largely mediocre people.
That's the problem with the conservative ideology. People are so wrapped up in this status quo and maintaining it that they forget all progress has come from moving beyond the status quo. Like giving black people the ability to vote. Then women.
in 2014 it's ridiculous that some people cling so desperately to trying to treat an entire swath of the population as second-class citizens. It's like some people will never learn to stop being a$$holes.
To imply that government regulation doesn't sometimes help move the douche-canoes of society towards a more just life is patently wrong.
I should say over regulation. Healthcare is regulated so heavily that no new businesses will ever be able to spring up and smaller ones are being pushed out.
The US needs to adopt longer healthcare contracts like 5-10 years instead of annually.
Similar to Switzerland. The the healthcare companies have more riding on keeping you healthy and cant drop you within your contract term.
stilletto. remember, it was the Democrats who promoted slavery.. Republicans fought for their freedom. lest we forget.
you must have forgotten the ideological reversal of the two parties. It's a common mistake.
stilleto. good try. common mistake of the liberal. you think you can take credit where it's not due. I expected this response from you. lol
A lack of education seems to be a common conservative mistake :) any political scientist can easily tell you the same re: ideological shift, regardless of their political affiliations. I can include the necessary academic articles if you'd like to be
If these younger people choose to be uninsured should we continue to pay for their emergency care. After all they did choose not to participate.
I hope so.
It will work just like the website works...... It doesn't
Not perfect but it works and getting better. That's pretty good with some state not trying or actually working against progress.
Hahahaha! The ACA is far from progress!
The lowest deductibles people are seeing are around 3000. People can rallie all they want.. but you can't argue with facts.
What you can't argue with is that some state did not expand Medicaid. So many have incomes that fall between existing Medicaid levels and where the exchanges begin.
I commend Governors such as Nathan Deal for refusing to expand their Medicaid programs. The federal government is completely overstepping their bounds.
The fact is boundries were set upon the federal goverenment during the foundation of our country... and now it seems as though the federal goverenment treats those boundries as if they were just suggestions..
What boundaries are those?
Ugh... Look at article II!
Study up on our natural rights...
No, because the smart ones already know that it's a bad deal, and the rest will figure it out once they take a look at the costs.
Hide yo kids! Hide yo wife! And hide yo husband cuz they making everybody get insurance out here.
Noooo, what your getting is signed under the threat of penalty. You might get insurance if the site actually links properly to the insurance company. Or you might get your personal info hacked. Great deal, if you're a moron.
Lol! I don't have any intention of signing up for it, I have TRICARE so that doesn't effect me in the least. I was just making a joke.
Apologies swervin. I had TriCare until I was forced onto MediCare when I turned 65. Went from $215/yr to over $1200/yr. Still a deal but not what I was promised every time I reenlisted. Better than Obamacare though.
Yeah sign up young and healthy! That's me! I want a high premium and an impossible to reach deductible yayyyyyy!!!!
Today's youth (in general)
1. Pays little attention to mainstream media
2. Doesn't trust anything (especially the government)
3. would rather spend their money on cars, phones, & entertainment than health insurance.
Why should we trust anything? Our country's situation is declining because of blind and misplaced trust.
They rather have an Ipad! Most will still use their mommies policy.
Coming from a "youth", national youth enrollment day sounds awfully Third Reich-ish
Haha that's the truth
An attempt to turn our youth into sheeple for the Government. Our freedoms are being taken away one by one. Resist.
This is just shameful.
