Who is your favorite US president, and why?
TR. Progressive, no BS, get it done kind of guy. There's a lot I don't like about him, but for his work on behalf of national parks and forests, breaking up trusts, and keeping Europe out of the Americas, he earned his spot on Rushmore.
Reagan. He's the reason I'm a republican. He believed in low taxes, limited government, personal responsibility.
Not sure what JFK did.
Reagan was the best president.
Clinton. I appreciate his fiscal views and social views.
Bill Clinton, because despite his moral character flaws he was a good leader and the country was in a good path
I like Ike
Lincoln. Made the gutsiest move ever with the Emancipation Proclamation. Succeeded the worst president ever (Buchanan), and held the union together. Emancipated a whole race. Read his second inaugural address. Greatest speech in American history.
Uh you've got to be kidding me
I like Ike. He authorized the construction of the interstate system. One out of every 5 miles is a strait-away to land aircraft. That's how we get fresh produce in the east from the west.
Not sure what JFK did.
BO severely criticized Hillary for wanting HCR and then flipped to give us the ACA monstrosity.
While I realize the hypocrisy there, as you said Clinton's one view changed in a ten year span where as Romney changed his views on multiple things almost every other time he was spoken too.
JFK didn't do much he just gets credit for his age, accent, time he lived in, and assassination.
JFK was great because he wasn't going to play ball with all of the corrupt BS, thats why they had him killed. He could have been the greatest president since Lincoln if it wasnt cut short.
Wasn't there a claim Ike had an affair?
I choose to do Monrone, not just because she is easy! But because I was hard!
He was a good one
Probably Calvin Coolidge. Thomas Jefferson, too.
Huh? Where did you get that from? Seriously, I'm curious what you are getting at.
He's one of the worst!!
Because he's a fine family man!
Truman was a terrorist
Thomas Jefferson he shrunk the size of government, lowered taxes, doubled the size of the nation, and stood up for individual liberty.
He got elected because of corruption. Everyone in his family was corrupt. But he did nothing in office
He should have listened to Marilyn Monroe about the Bay of Pigs. The Cubans are still upset.
Obama. Role as Commnder-in-Chief, in National Security, Foreign Policy, Health Care, and Gay Marriage.
Skinner do you ever change your mind? I'm going to assume your answer is yes and alert you that presidents can as well.
And all of them have so your getting on Clinton's case about this because? Gay marriage is a popular issue right now.
Too racist. A brilliant mind who believed that slavery was wrong but still owned them and refused to deal with it on a national level. The founding fathers inaction led to the Civil War.
I agree with skinner. FDR did not lift the immigration quotas, which would have let more Jews escape the Nazis. He left them
In Europe to be murdered. My husband's grandmother was among these victims. She was gassed at Auschwitz, because she ...
Abraham Lincoln or JFK
Big fan of Teddy.
... could not get a visa for the United States, in time.
FDR also did not aggressively bomb railroad tracks to the concentration camps or do anything else to stop the genocide.
Jefferson was also told by his best friend John Adams to free his slaves. Benjamin Franklin also told him he'd look hypocritical if he didn't. There were anti slavery people & movements at the time he lived. But you can't read 16 hours a day
if you have to plow your own plantation. Jefferson was a brilliant mind & did many great things. But he refused to deal with slavery which ruins him for me.
George Washington. He could have easily destroyed our new country before it even began. He was a great leader.
Matt, I see you and skinner "agreed to disagree," so I don't want to start something again. But, I just noticed this conversation and felt I should support skinner's argument.
I have a lot I really like (e.g., Ike, Coolidge, Reagan, etc.), but my favorite has always been Lincoln and likely always will be.
George Washington did nearly everything right. I'd say he's the best President in United States history, and my personal favorite.
Huh?? I admitted he has moral flaws - I actually don't think that has a lot to do with leadership
It's a trust factor. If his family can't trust him who can!
rons....as if any politician is trustworthy?
Clinton's social views. Which one? The one where he wants to deny gay rights or the one where he has an magic change of heart and becomes in favor of gay marriage?
