Real statement I once heard: "I do not ask people who are crying if they are okay, because that would be throwing them a 2 second pity party. That is unacceptable. No one deserves pity."

It doesn't have to be pity. I'd call it being empathetic which can be a step towards healing whatever is wrong.

Asking why a person is crying doesn't in my opinion, mean pity but empathy and concern.

If I do its generally because I find crying to be a very unprofessional behaviour to engage oneself in and I'm going to hint at maybe they should try to think about what is going on instead of getting 😭. This is just the standard I hold myself to.

I wish the context could be displayed...just picture someone saying this very intense, very angrily, somewhat shouting, eyes very wide and clenched jaw
