There can be no peace without strength.

Seems like the only reason anyone would fall for the illusion of strength is to bolster the illusion of security that their illusion of peace is based on. Strength, illusory or real, is at best a means; never an end. But neither illusion has any value.

What if someone's willing to call your bluff though?

What if said strength is only an illusion?

If it's a convincing illusion, then it might be able to preserve a real peace.

The illusion of peace emboldens bad people to do bad things, the illusion of strength makes them think twice.
