other people, so there were others in her life.

But to say that I wasn't a single mother just sounds screwy, to me.

After seeing the first picture pop up on my news feed multiple times I've decided that people are taking two different meanings from the phrase "single mother"

putting her to bed, taking her to the doctor, going to parent-teacher meetings, and on and on. I have utterly no animosity toward him for any of this - I was the one who took her far away; we're still good friends. And also we usually lived with

Single + mother != single mother

Huh. I don't really get it. My daughter's father was "in" her life, but mostly from a distance, except for summers she spent with him and occasional visits. Most of the time there was no one else buying her clothes, making her meals, reading to her,

Disagree. My mom is a single mother. I mean that. My dad is no dad. I see him maybe twice a year, though hes biologically my father.

I think she means to point out more the women who declare themselves single mothers in a victim sense when in reality, the father is very involved. From what you've said, I'd say you were a single mother.

Right. I took "in their life" to mean "actively involved in their life and well-being, but not romantically involved with the mother."

True statement, the best disagree option I have seen yet.

Agreed. There are drama mommas who declare themselves single mothers like its a badge but isn't true.

My new sister in law wouldn't let the dads of her two kids (one being my brother) be a part of the kids lives yet consistently went on about being a single mother. Interested to see what she says now that she and my brother are suddenly married...
