Inspired by looking at the stars tonight... Does the universe end?
This is what is so exciting about eternity. We will not be sitting on a cloud playing a harp. We will be exploring the massive Universe God created for His own Glory.
Living in the city, I'm being robbed of one of the most spectacular things on earth that had always been hidden from me in plain sight.
When it ends, what is on the other side of the end?? Answer: it is endless.
I guess we'll figure that out when we never get there.
You are assuming that we are created by chance, if we are created by God there is a 0% chance of that.
I've always imagined it being like everything in the universe is trapped inside of a balloon. There is no "wall" there's just places where the universe does and does not exist.
The thing I don't comprehend is now the universe is only 13 trillion years, yet the sun has a life of 10 trillion years, earth about 3... All heavier atoms come from inside stars so... That would mean there was a lot of stars doing quite a bit...
Of work to make heavier atoms, yet they had a significantly shorter life that the sun. I think the universe is much older than our current estimates given the age of our sun. (Sorry it's only ~7 trillion years old.)
If there are any Louis C.K. fans out there he says it ends in Houston where a starbucks is right across the street from another Starbucks.
Well, I don't know that! *flies off Bridge of Death*
Mine don't either, my friend. I type one-fingered. But I usually proofread, because I expect typos (typi?). :o)
Jenna, there is only one Jenna, a unique masterpiece of God's handiwork. Don't ever forget that!
One of my favorite parts of the recent Cosmos reboot was when Tyson talked about our cosmological address. The vastness is fierce!
Jenna, most of the "stars" we see are galaxies like our own, each with billions of stars in it. How's that for perspective? :o)
Anyone else getting creeped out by this topic?
It makes the little things we fret over seem pretty insignificant to me. It doesn't creep me out, but it definitely makes my mind spin a bit. :)
That is not correct, infinity does not imply every possible combination will be fulfilled. Just look at 1/3, it is equal to 1.33333333 with infinite 3's, but even though it is infinite you will never see "8675309" in that number, only 3's
Ha ha ha Border. You think your class in astronomy gives you a better grasp of the properties of the universe than 75% of the scientific community.
If one will search the scriptures, one will find that the universe is infinite, and that God has created "worlds without end" in order that His children may have the opportunity to receive immortality and eternal life. It is not an empty universe.
The universe does in fact end. It may be so massive that it may seem infinite but it is definitely finite.
Another universe, potentially an alternate one.
the universe is a bubble with nothing outside itself to compare itself to. relativity does not exist outside of the universe so it appears as though it is infinitely large from within and infinitely small from outside.
The universe is not infinite, though it is constantly expanding at a speed humans can't match, and it will be for longer than the human race will be around.
And each of them with their own Jenna staring at the sky in awe and mesmerization. That's how it works, right? :P
I think it gradually ends and then after that there is nothingness until you gradually enter another universe to cross. There are as many Universes as there are numbers. There is no ending.
Did ya see me? I was flying my single-engine Cessna
A single heart cell beats. It's true! As everyone knows, "Uni" means one. Our "uni"verse is actually a polyverse. As they say, "Like. Wow. Dude."
It ends, but it is expanding so quickly that we will never be able to reach the edge.
If you believe the universe is infinite then that means you think every possible world ever exists. That means there is a world were The Simpsons are real, that means there is a world were The Avengers are real. And so forth
Sorry, this boggles my mind from time to time.
The Universe will be a wondrous place to explore and learn about for eternity. It's a shame that most astronomers and scientists will not be able since they rejected God in this life.
Scientists believe it's expanding.
As I understand it, the universe started expanding with the Big Bang and has continued to do so ever since. So yes, it's still expanding which means that it is a finite distance across.
I have no idea if there's a limit to that expansion.
"Dammit Jim I'm a doctor not a physicist!"
Know for sure about the universe.
Yeah I kept thinking about how all the stars I was seeing had been gone for millions of years too. That was the first time I can remember seeing a full, clear sky with zero light pollution, so you can imagine I was pretty mesmerized. I feel like
Thinking about the vastness of the universe always makes me feel a little sick.
If god created us, there is a 0% chance that another human like world even exists
The scientific community stumbles each other all the time, I'm just stating how there are so many unprovable theories it is ridiculous to say there is unison.
Also due to light pollution we can't really see the stars where I live.
If the universe was infinite then when we looked at the night sky it would be completely filled with stars and there would be no dark spots. Besides, it's a well established theory that the universe is about 13 billion light years across
Isn't the universe constantly expanding also so do you think there's a limit to that expansion?
If a single cell in ones body were intelligent, would it think that it's universe (the body it occupies) ends?
Do you think there's a limits to the universes expansion or is that expansion infinite?
It must, because God is bigger.
Everything comes to an end/dies.
So I am not sure how to answer this.
Hi, Zack. :)
I don't think there is a limit, but I'm certainly not the person to ask.
Idk I can't do infinity
Tom- reading your comment just made me catch another one of my thumb/phone blunders... Yes, that does add some "perspective".
My fingers and phone just don't play well together :)
