Hypothetical: All websites except for one will be shut down. Which website would you argue for to save?
Amazon. For the convenience of online retail. Also because I have confidence they would adapt to fill some of the voids created by other missing websites (Prime Music over Spotify, etc.)
I was going to say Wikipedia, but...
You know what? No matter what website we decide on, it would probably turn to total crap in about a week. With no other place to post awful comments, everyone would go there and rip the place to shreds.
Either that, or we'd all start to behave ourselves, with only one place we all had to share.
But I think I know which way it would go, even though some fraction of us would perish in the flames trying to make things right.
I guess we should go with Reddit then. That way, we could have dedicated news subreddits where only journalists could make posts, a Wikipedia subreddit where edits are only allowed by moderators etc.
It's probably the closest we could get to regular internet on only one site
You can replace Wikipedia with an encyclopedia, but YouTube would be hard to replace.
Encyclopedias can't be updated fast enough in my opinion.
You *could* attach videos to Wikipedia articles, I think.
Probably. It's HTML I believe
I imagine something could be done to accommodate it, if it's not possible now. Not that I really know what I'm talking about, though.
This old classic...
Where's the SOUND? That was half the fun of hamsterdance!
The first time I landed on that site, I was websurfing at work. In the lab. Which was a large open room where *everyone* except the boss and the lab manager worked.
With my sound turned on pretty high.
Fortunately it was a pretty casual setting; everyone worked long hours and some playing around on the internet was expected and tolerated. Even so - that, um, music. I was so embarrassed... it was sometime early in my first year working in the lab.
I still love hamsterdance, though.
Well, not Google. Talk about instant obsolescence.
YouTube... hmm or maybe amazon
Redt... I mean YouTube.
Good choice. Lots of free games.
Idk. Wikipedia is not bad, but it sure does have a lot of BS articles on communism, and politics in general.
Yeah they're all biased. I can't say about Communism because I have a bias against Communism, but I've seen it on the Fascism pages. For us they cannot stress hard enough how hateful, racist, bigoted, and violent we are. I'm not any of those things so it kind of bothers me that they push these things as fact. What things do they say about Communism that bother you?
Mostly just misrepresenting historical facts. For example, they greatly exaggerate the famine of 1932-33 and perpetuate the Nazi-designed myth of it as the "Holodomor genocide." They call counter-revolutionaries such as Leon Trotsky, Pol Pot, Deng Xiaoping, Nikita Khrushchev, Josip Tito, and Mikhail Gorbachev communists. They seem to think communist revolutionaries can control the weather and agricultural conditions.
Are you a classical/Italian fascist?
YouTube narrowly over Wikipedia.
I thought about Google but without sites to search for it's useless.
YouTube dot com.
Hey, did all you Wikipedia guys donate yet?
Yes, I did, like I always do for Wikipedia
Yep! $10 every year
$10 every year!
Keep your money guys.
YouTube. I could always watch The Nerd there, if cinemassacre.com gets shut down, and I'd miss all those classic fights...like the one where Ali punished Ernie Terrell for 15 rounds for calling him Cassius Clay. 'What's my name? What's my name?' That was a bad man right there!
Wikipedia is my second choice.
None of the searched websites would work. 😁
In that case I guess YouTube.
Actually Google keeps cached versions of every website its ever crawled. It could turn out to be the goldmine as it would potentially have every page and most of its non-ad content.
In that case Google. Haha
Wikipedia is my second choice.
In relation to this poll, next I will make a poll about Wikipedia vs YouTube as a website to save.
Thanks for the heads-up. Do I have time to take a dump first?
I will do it either later tonight or tomorrow.
