Money as a birthday gift: thoughtless or awesome?
I'd rather get money. Why? I can buy whatever I'd like.
I had no idea! I've always felt that giving money was the lazy way. What kind of thought has to go onto that?
I guess I don't need to bother with thinking about gifts any more, just give money. My Christmas just got easy!
I'll take it
It is usually thoughtless, but that doesn't stop it from being awesome!
You could say that it's thoughtlessly awesome
That being said, I always give a gift receipt if it's something that can be returned or exchanged ...
A well thought out gift is really nice to give and receive, but sometimes it's hard to find just the right thing when you want it, so giving money's better than just getting anything. i really like planning out a good present for someone that i know they'll love.
Well gifts are nice but with money you can buy what you want. I hate when people buy me clothes cause most don't really know my style or size.
Happy birthday Tali'zora
Lol! My birthday is today and got money, aww yeah!
I did say awesome, but I think it depends on age.
Gifts for adults. Money for kids. But I prefer to get dachshunds on my birthday. Yummy!
I'd rather just get money to buy something myself. I like to receive something you made, or just money.
Also, if I get money as a gift I end up paying bills with it or squandering it, never anything fun. Got some money from my gramma a few weeks ago and vowed not to spend it that way. Saving it until i see something I really want.
Kinda shocked. Money is thoughtless. I would much rather a gift with thought behind it, but I guess I'm in the minority here. To think of all the hours I spend searching for perfect Christmas gifts when it's so much easier to put money in an envelope!
Depends on who it's coming from? How old am I? As an adult, I'd rather a thoughtful gift. A kid, heck yeah, give me money!
We always give money, but we do it in really creative ways and it's so much fun!!
Thoughtless checks are where it's at
If you asked this ten years ago, the results would be much different.
I agree with kmurph. I rather get money so i can get my own gift that i kno i will like rather than a gift i may or may not use
Thoughtless and awesome. It requires no effort on the givers part, and I do like the thought behind an actual gift, but I will never turn down money as a gift :)
I said awesome, but I think both. It requires no effort or thought about what the person would like, but at the same time it gives them the freedom to choose
dude it's money hell yeah
Both, but more awesome!
I truly appreciate any gift because of the thought behind it. If someone gives me a gift card for coffee, books, or the movie theater, or cash, I am thrilled with it because I known they care. It really doesn't matter what it is, it's just wonderful being remembered!
I'm a broke college student, there's nothing I could use more than money.
Pragmaniac I agree. It means that they don't really know you enough to know what you like. Although I do appreciate the thought
Small minds always try to fix problems with their wallets.
Money is always awesome! Even if I intend to "regift" it for another's birthday, it is still awesome!!
Where's the both button, it's thoughtless and awesome :D
I love getting $$$ for my birthday! It gives you freedom to buy anything you want instead of getting something you might not want!
I love getting money as a gift. However, I'm the type of person that doesn't like to spend money on myself and instead buy for my kid or my husband. Therefore, no one likes to give me money as they are afraid I won't buy myself something.
I got $150 for my birthday. Score! Only my wife & best friend gave me actual gifts.
close friends or family...I'd rather get a thoughtful card only than get money.
If it is a good friend... I feel like it is thoughtless.
Money is better than the crap my mother-in-law gets me because it's on sale. I now have 3 pink bathrobes.
Money is good if you don't know the recipient too well - after all this won't be returned.
Money is pointless. I give you 20 bucks for my birthday, you give me 20 bucks for my birthday and it cancels out. May as well just not done anything. I love gifts that have been made. I don't care if it's a card or a pencil topper or something extravagant. I'd rather get and give homemade things.
For a teenager the best gift, for me uninspired
As a teenager money is great but adults should by each other a real gift
I'm the one who asks them to get money.
Seriously, what can you get for the ultra-hipster who thinks that gifts should NOT be practical? Hmmmm...penis pasta? Edible undies? I think I'd rather stick to cash
I love getting money for my birthday but it is really thoughtless.
Really? How thoughtless!
It's what you give when you're too lazy to figure out what to give.
Apparently lots of youngsters out there. Gifts require thought. Money is soooo last minute, I'm desperate.
I meant @NObama
@ oh great, I agree on this with a moron
Money or gift card is better than someone who buys the gift for you.
