Today I hired a Day Laborer from Mexico. They get paid ten dollars an hour with a two hour minimum. Four or more hours and you buy them a meal too. So why is paying ten dollars an hour minimum wage such a big deal?
Negotiated/normal rate vs. mandated rate. Totally different.
Because a minimum wage was firstly not meant to be a living wage. Second, it drives up prices that are taken out on the consumer. Thrift, I have the right to have a business with my enployees ( a teen down the street) who will work fir $7 an hour
Versus your $10. Why should I pay more for something I can achieve fir less?
Cuz they would have taken $5/hr. Lol
So you paid the taxes and insurance due on that, right? Which means you got a TIN or SSN, and did paperwork to send those monies to the proper Federal authorities, and have enrolled in unemployment insurance, etc. Out of your pocket, that is about$18
Not quite I paid in untraceable cash. More like micro-employment.
Please turn yourself in. You just admitted to breaking several federal laws. The NSA monitors all SOH posts.
Laws are made to be enforced, not admitted to. It's only illegal if someone doesn't want you doing it. Some of the laws, some of the time, but not for everyone. Besides this is CA we really like the Day Laborers.
Go ahead and call them wetbacks, like I heard all along the border, no matter what state. If they get hurt, oh well, get another Juan tomorrow! Disgusting attitude.
2 for the price of Jaun
Because no taxes are taken from him, because it's for one day not a career, there was one guy rather than a workforce. I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons, but I'm no HR expert.
Hell be taxed when he spends it and fuck taxes.
Because the government should not set prices.
No set prices. Just set borders, then let illegals in anyway.
I hope he plans on paying the taxes on his earnings!
he will when he spends it.
Only taxed once? Oh man. Talk about living the dream!
It's what I would want for myself.
He won't pay taxes on it when he sends the bulk of it to Mexico.
He will in Mexico
Doesn't matter to us, that money is no longer in circulation in this country.
Mexico also doesn't have a sales tax. They have VAT, value added tax. Which is usually applied to non-essential or luxury items. So he probably won't be paying taxes on any of it...
Even if he is buying buying VAT items, Mexico has the lowest VAT rate in the world.
Exactly, though I believe in a fair tax system, we shouldn't be hiring illegals.
And here I thought you guys believed in freedom, weird.
I do but in the security of our economy, and with our current tax code we can't let illegals take jobs from natural law abiding tax paying citizens.
To be fair, part of the problem is that Americans can be whiny little bittches when it comes to actually working hard for their money. It's not all "illegals taking our jobs."
I'm aware of personal responsibility, but just because Americans aren't responsible, doesn't mean illegals taking jobs isn't a problem.
Like landscaping, dish washing, and picking fruit. Good jobs for REAL Americans. Good thing your ancestors got here first, right?
Unless you're on a reservation you are the result of someone's immigration.
So those are the only jobs Mexicans are good for?
Rickvee: Mexicans also are good for moving & clean-up after events. I like to hire them because they don't give lip, or unwanted advice on how the job should be done. I'm surprised @ how uncommon this seems. Here it's like stopping for gas.
Not what I said Rick nice try
I was just playing devil's advocate ;P
Because not all small businesses can afford it, it's not a career job, and that would make it to where a minimum wage job makes almost as much as some professional carpenters. Why didn't you hire American residents with the unemployment we have?
Obama wants to give 9(?) million illegals amnesty. What do you think will happen to American jobs then?
Kill the economy
I didn't hire a legal citizen because I didn't want to spend that much money. I was DYI car repair. If you ever have you know how an extra hand makes a difference. So I didn't pay a mechanic and I didn't spend 100's. Which is bad for the economy too
No it's not because you're adding more money to the consumer. And you're taking one more person of unemployment. The fact that you betrayed this country is sad and sick. You could've paid your legal worker a fair wage without overpaying him.
I agree wv, it's incredibly hypocritical.
With a 7.5% unemployment rate in San Diego why wouldn't you hire San Diego residents?
Because racism is wrong
Rebel, it's San Diego... It's mostly Hispanic. Or racist because he's illegal? ;P
I didn't know that. I don't think someone's "residency" should disqualify them from working. Best one for the job and that may include price. All humans are equal and I'm not going to give someone a hard time because all my grandpa had to do
was write his name in a book. Immigration built this country and most of us wouldn't be here without it.
Holy crap where did you go? What part of Cali are you in?
I'm in San Diego city. The border is really close. It is all to common. There is a paint store on my nearest main street. It's in a strip mall they hang out there. There & every home depot .
