Would you be offended or uncomfortable at all if you were in a public place and someone of a different religion than yours was passing out flowers with cards attached that had uplifting quotes from their holy book on it?
I usually say I don't in fairy tails or sometimes that I worship the devil. They leave me alone pretty fast.
Passing flowers and positive energy is better than standing on a corner holding signs and screaming
I've been handed many a bible before. I don't care, but I feel like giving me a dozen bibles is probably a waste of a dozen bibles, y'know?
Not at all. I'm Jewish and had some very good chats with random pastors spreading the word of God at train stations.
Ditto, except mine were at airports. I always thought it was sweet.
And I like having intellectual discussions with them. They're very smart people and we often agree on things
I wouldn't be offended. I might be a little uncomfortable, but not anything significant.
Annoyed, mostly. Easy enough to ignore, though.
Offended? I'd think that's lovely! It would certainly lift my spirits.
I hate it when people are thoughtful.
No, but I would respectfully decline.
You would decline it? I would've thought you'd be all over it, it's just a message of peace and love. That's like everything you stand for!
If it were just a stranger, I would decline. I think it's disrespectful to take an item which will go to waste when they could give it to another person and it may flourish. Other circumstances, I may accept it.
Well in this circumstance, we had no idea what the purpose of it was until they has given is the flowers and we read the cards.
I would ask...
Fair enough. That's very conscientious of you haha :)
I wouldn't be offended, but I wouldn't accept whatever they hand out.
Unless it's a Bible, then I will kindly accept and give it to someone who needs a Bible :)
I'd feel like the biggest loser/hypocrite if I was offended or uncomfortable. I'm Mormon and served a mission. I appreciate how hard it is to do that, whether its knocking doors, or talking to people on the street. It's intimidating.
I'd go get one. I'd probably chat with them. I'm interested in knowing about other faiths. I'm a Christian.
As long as they aren't pushy about it and aren't impeding the flow of foot traffic, eh. No worse than the people giving out coupons and club passes.
I would be happy. Anyone who is trying to spread peace is good in my book!
Nah, I might help them pass said flowers out!
Not at all. The Hare Krishnas used to do this all the time. No obligation, no inconvenience, no sales pitch. At worst, it's a bright spot in your day. What was printed on the card that would open the gates of Hell?
"Go to Hell. Go directly to Hell. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200."
Anyone who's "offended" by a genuine gesture of kindness has real problems!
That doesn't bother me if it's done in a public place. What bothered me was when a group of people lead by a pastor showed up at my mosque with signs telling us our religion was a lie and started handing out bibles.
Ugh I'm sorry. That's awful
Don't apologize, it's not your fault :)
Please know that not all christians aee like this. Most of us completely dissagree with actions such as that...
What?! That's insane. Who does that? Rude.
JC- Don't worry, I know. My positive experiences with Christians by far outnumber the negative ones :)
Glad to hear that Janna! Just wish more people would see it that way haha
Erm... Jennea... my bad :P
No I think that would really nice. An expression of kindness in way I'm not accustomed to is always something really cool to experience.
depending upon what religion would depend on whether or not I would accept the gift.
I would not but neither would I accept it from a Krishna nor a Scientologist.
I also would not interfere.
Only if they used the act to get $. I don't want anybody selling me anything (religion or product) unless I make the effort to go shopping.
Not at all. I would thank them take it read the quote and pocket if. For the flower I'd find a pretty girl to give it to!
I would think of it as a really really kind gesture. It would probably make me smile a lot :)
Yeah I thought it was a really nice thing to do.
I wouldn't be offended at all, I would feel grateful if anything.
The hari khrisna guy always did something like that at the airports years ago. It was fine! Just don't stop my progress is all I ask!
I just had lunch in the student center with some friends.
A few people walked in with some flowers and started passing them out. They were so excited and thought it was such a precious thing to do.
When we got our flowers and they read what was on it... They were pretty annoyed about it. They were totally uncomfortable. One was like "uh can I throw this card away? I feel like I'm gonna go to hell for having this lol"
Another was like "I feel like a bad Christian for not telling him about Jesus"
Their reactions pissed me off. I didn't say anything to them though lol
*for clarity, my friends were really excited and thought it was precious until they read what was on the card.
I actually went on a rant texting you about this as it was happening, cole haha
I assume you aren't by your phone though. ^.^
Lol not right now! I'll text you back when I have my phone in like 2 hours. :)
Hahaha okey dokey then!
You should've said something to your friends, the grave will supply enough time to be silent.
One of these days I'll get up the nerve to say something in these situations. I didn't want to start an argument though..
Sometimes people don't realise they're acting idiotic and need someone to help them realize this, but confrontation can be intimidating.
I guess I don't think that saying what I think is going to change anything. All it'll do is create tension.
What religion was it?
And frankly, it's a free flower. Yay flowers!
Islam. And I agree.. The people were also so sweet!
What did the cards say?
Nothing that would be offensive. Mine had a quote on it about the worth of knowledge.
Each of ours had a different quote on it though.
Then at the bottom it had the name of our Muslim organization on campus.
No, why would I be?
I don't understand why anyone would have a negative reaction at all either lol
