This is to answer a question me and my friend was talking about today- Whose legacy would have grown more if they had been able to finish their terms as president, John Kennedy or Abraham Lincoln?
Abe. JFK's legacy might have been damaged by the escalation of the Vietnam war.
I said JFK, but only because Lincoln's legacy is already so massive with the civil war & the freeing of the slaves, that I can't imagine him being able to do anything to make his legacy even grander.
And speaking of assassination, NathanE kind of brought grammar to a brutal end in the poll question. LOL.
I'm old. Humor me.
I honestly think they both would have grown less, had they not been assassinated.
Lincoln was already well established and Kennedy was just really getting into the groove of things
if it weren't for the curse placed in the Kennedy family I feel we would be so much better off today
No such thing as the Kennedy curse
The many Kennedy's that had untimely deaths may disagree with you.
Trust me, I know all about it. It's not a curse
Kennedy because he did very little before he was assassinated but had great potential.
abe's legacy is well established. its hard to build upon something more, that already has such high standards. I guess kennedys legacy could grow more than abe's due to that fact.
Do you mean who would have had a bigger overall legacy or strictly what legacy was missed due to the assassinations?
Lincoln would have made the south come back into the union more smoothly and effectively, Kennedy handled the missile crisis well, would have made Vietnam way shorter, and more
-Back out Bay of Pigs
-Said he was a Doughnut
-Made a ridiculous speech (what you can do for your country)
-Said lets put a man on the moon
-Nail hot chicks
-and Got killed
No one in Germany perceived his comment to mean anything about doughnuts. Its a funny historical myth - not based in truth.
Much of JFK's work in civil rights may have been unnecessary had Lincoln been able to oversee his version of reconstruction.
Lincoln was assassinated after serving four years. His term was pretty much done...
He was assassinated shortly after being reelected. So he still had a whole term to go.
My mistake, I thought it was at the end of his first.
JFK did nothing
Uhhhh that's not true
Your right he failed at the bay of pigs
You mean the operation that was already underway before he became president?
I mean the operation he promised he would support but backed out of
So what do you think happened with the Cuban middle crisis?
To say JFK did nothing is absolutely absurd. We were literally on the brink of nuclear war, he and his administration essentially saved countless lives.
There were no missiles on Cuba at the time of Bay of Pigs
He won there the missile crisis would have never happened. Also Kennedy supported an air strike on the missiles, he did not want the blockade, his cabinet basically forced him to contact the kremlin
What? He actually talked to them more than many people wanted him to.
His cabinet members convinced him to contact the kremlin. He himself did not want to talk to the Soviets
And where are you getting that from?
APUSH textbook and review book
Kennedy would have come out as the politician that he really was eventually.
I think John would've ended the Vietnam war a lot sooner
I think so too
Lincoln had more of a chance to do things in his time as president. JFK was just getting started...
Somehow JFK was like clinton. They were interested in women more then the country.
Wow, such a well thought out point based on facts.
I just laughed out loud reading that comment. You were making an accusation about JFK, but you seem so unsure about it.
JFK really wasn't that great Lincoln on the other hand was willing to lead and would have increased the rights of African Americans
I voted for JFK only because he didn't complete one term. Lincoln was assassinated after he was re elected.
I think that the reconstruction would've been handled much better if Lincoln would've been alive to oversee the start of it.
