Have you ever started your own brick & mortar retail store? If yes, Please share in the comments what you wish you had known before opening.
I have a business license but not a Brick and Mortar store. Granite Forge Productions!
You didn't build that.
I'm in process of opening a store. I know there are things I haven't thought of and would love any advice!!
What kind? Does your local community college have a small business course?
A yarn and fiber arts shop!!! We have no community college here. Just the university. And hubby and I decided not to spend the time and money on a business course. We've had our own business before but it was service not retail.
Advertising of some sort is imperative!
Diversify your products and services.
Let specialty groups know you exist and perhaps offer specials or discounts for them. One group is the SCA (www.sca.org)
It is a historical group and you can find your locals by starting with that link. There may be a Civil War re-enactor group and rendezvous groups.
Good luck with your endeavor!
