Does life have a purpose?
Life doesn't, you do.
Yes, but... What is it?
Life's purpose is to help other people and advance as a whole society
Life does not inherently have a purpose. It is up to the living to give their life and the lives of others a purpose.
This question really needs to define "purpose".
Everyone's purpose in life is to figure out his/her purpose in life.
Loving people loving people loving people
To repopulate then die. Keep the species going
Not at all we live to repopulate and die ... Life is useless
Ready to die?
I don't believe that people are born with an inherent purpose, but I do think that your life will be as purposeful as you choose to make it.
We are just literally here because.
Depends if the meaning (purpose) is absolute or subjective. If absolute then yes because a force outside the subjective self determines it for all. But if no force exists then it would simply be my subjective opinion and then only a relative purpose
sure.. life is what happens between birth and death.its up to us to find our individual purpose
if religious then Gods calling.
if not find your niche. no two are the same
Personally, no. I'm not unique, I'm replaceable.
In my opinion you (and all people) are unique and are not replaceable.
Thinking we have no purpose whatsoever is very depressing so might as well just go with the fact that life has a purpose and it is different for all of us
no, we don't have a purpose. if we never existed to begin with, would it matter? no.
if we all died this second, would it matter? no.
if you were to die this this instant, would it really matter in the grand scheme of things? no.
however, since our existence is pointless. we should all strive to make our lives worth something so that those who are doomed to live after us may look back and say, " look at all of the incredible things they did, even though they didn't have to do anything."
I would say all those things do matter.
The question's too vague. A spiritual purpose? Biologically, sure, our sole purpose is to successfully reproduce. Beyond that it's up to you.
To everyone that says no. You just have to find your purpose. It's different for everyone.
To love and serve God.
I'd rather not live
ell roque, do us all a favor then....
Harsh and uncalled for bchrome...
too depress the shit out of me
Not in the grand scheme of things, we're just too insignificant for anything we do to matter. You can set goals for yourself though, and have your own personal purpose.
Absolutely yes, but I'm not interested In trying to explain it here (casting pearls).
To adore God, you asshole
If there was such a thing
Well whatever it is I'm sure it includes mountain biking, man stuff like choppin' down trees and diggin' holes and making sure you get your yearly intake of jelly beans.
Enjoy life! But don't die so young that you don't have time to enjoy it.
life is what you make of it. if you believe it has a purpose then it will for you - if you don't it won't. This question raises the fundamental debate on what purpose means and thus what the meaning of life is...
To me, life's only purpose is for me to make my own.
To live free of tyranny
My life has a great deal of purpose.
Not really. We're basically just atoms smashing around. If there is anything like a purpose, it's probably self-fulfillment. Live to be happy.
I like the technicality, just live to be happy
Live to be happy is a sad outlook? U must be living to be sad then ;-)
That is not sad. Lol
It's sad that self gratification is the end all to be all instead of having something higher too Strive for
What is higher than happiness? Btw, I don't mean empty gratification from inane things like sex and booze (not that there's anything wrong with those). I mean happiness in knowing that you are the best possible version of yourself.
Absolutely, to know Christ and make Him known.
To love one another, and to follow the word of God.
God sounds like Kim kardashian. Hes vapid and needs constant attention
No need to be rude with your judgmental opinions.
God=purpose? Wow that's kinda pathetic
Are u not pushing you're judgement of god on use?
All she is doing is stating her purpose in life...how is that judging u?
I am really amazed at how many people get defensive when Christ's name is brought up in a conversation
Hey derp take a peek at Luke 6:22-23
It truly is incredible. I never once judged anyone nor said that you're all condemned to anything in my statement.
NOR did I say God WAS my purpose. Therefore you're either all completely horrible at interpretation or like mentioned - defensive at
any mention of a Christ. That's unfortunate, truly unfortunate.
You know Xpose, that was quite wonderful. Thank you.
The answer to everything is 42.
I guess that means I'm off by 5!
I believe everyone should strive to find a purpose in life. I strive not to be familiar for anything but to leave something behind after I'm gone that benefited humanity wether it is a cure for a disease or saving someone's life I don't want 2 spend my days on earth just being another air sucker that didn't contribute anything.
yes, to rid this country of democrats
why not all politicians?
if you guide that anger to politicians in general we mayget something done
lol tell that to Obama, Mr. "its my way or the highway" mentality
right like Mr Wears The Magic Underwear was a better choice. they both sucked as a choice. That's why I didn't vote
Lol both sides are like that.
"It's my way or the highway" is democratic? Coming from what, a republican whose party shut down the gov and threatened to default on debt if obamacare was not delayed?
Why is there so much Venomous hatred towards a book that only teaches love. It is the people's interpretation that is at fault just like in any other belief.
because that book doesn't teach love. God is the most vengeful psychopath ever to be written about.
And that book and God hasn't done a thing to prevent countless wars and atrocities committed in his name.
Can you actually name a conflict started in the name of Christianity?
the crusades, the inquisition, the Salem witch trials, the holocaust
The crusades were a defensive war against Muslim expansion. The inquisition and Salem witch trials were not wars, and the holocaust was about race, not religion.
The fact is, there's never been a war waged for Christianity.
so you say...
@screwU The crusades were not a defensive war; they were wars of conquest by Catholic Europeans.
Plus don't forget the bloody wars between Catholics and Protestants, like the Thirty Years' War that laid waste to Germany.
Wait what about hitler and the Jews? That has nothing to do with war and religion?
Why is there so much venomous is hatred towards a book that only teaches love it's the people that distort the teachings just like in any other religion
Life has no inherent purpose, nothing does. It means only what meaning we assign to it.
Your purpose in life is what YOU make it.
Hitler, Stalin they had a purpose in mind so did Mother Teresa and Gandhi. It's what you make of it that counts.
Mother Teresa was a horrible human being who should never have been sainted. she basically worshipped during and death. she belongs with Hitler and Stalin in the record books
Ever seen pictures of her "clinics?" Hundreds of people lying on bare mattresses in rows, no medical treatment, waiting to die. She was a monster. And her name wasn't even Theresa.
Well isn't that better than lying in the streets waiting to die? Why would she spend her life making clinics to put people in and do nothing?
Of course almost everyone thinks it's to 'serve god'. Well guess what? There is no God. There is no evidence for it.
Christianity reduces men to the status of sheep. Well, forgive me if I don't think that being an obedient sheep is very fulfilling.
Look around you. Nature is entropy. It doesn't build sand castles, it reduces them to dunes. Life is incredibly complicated, with interacting systems of systems. The idea that it just "happened" is what is beyond belief.
And your alternative is that this incredibly complex universe was designed by one entity? One deity that must be at least equally as complex as the universe itself? When there is no physical evidence for it at all? That is a huge leap of faith.
My lack of belief is a null hypothesis. When there is an absence of evidence for something, it is assumed to be false until proven otherwise. The burden if proof rests on the person making a claim. It's basic logic. So where is your proof of god?
The existence of creation is proof of a creator. Now, the attributes of the creator are only known to us through the creation. At a minimum, the creator has the ability to create what we can observe.
That argument is fallacious. Saying that the universe is a creation assumes that there is a creator. The fact is: you can't prove that the universe was created or designed. If this is some design, it's the most convoluted, absurd design imaginable.
a purpose to turn up
The purpose of life is to love The Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
If good existed I'd hate him with all my heart, mind, and soul.
the God of the Abraham is not worthy of worship!
not good, God*
Why would you hate Him?! Why is He not worthy?!
Who here hates someone who loves you?? Anyone? No? Ok then. Think about it. Love God and live in paradise or be filled with hate towards a perfect being then rot in hell? I think I'm going with heaven :)
no thanks, eternity sounds awful no matter where you go.
I'd rather be in hell for an eon or two than deal with God and Christians
if hell does exist, it's only the fire that's eternal, not necessarily the souls that go there. so if Hell exists and I go there, my soul will eventually be annihilated
You are not really making sense. Sorry, but you will be tortured for eternity if you go to hell. And trust me- you do not want to go there.
better there than with the likes of you, Frank, pat Robertson, Joyce Myers, Joel Osteen, and especially YHWH
btw, I renounce God and deny the Holy Spirit
Well don't be looking for me to follow you. I am sorry you chose to be that way.
I repeat, only the lake of fire of gahenna is said to be eternal, nothing about the damned souls. this is called an annihilationist perspective of Hell
Is SAID to be. It is also said to be that evolution is real... Which it's not btw.
think for yourself, pick up the cliffs notes for the origin of species and form your own opinion of the theory
watch documentaries about evolution, do something.
at the very least, looking into your opponents perspective will give you ammunition to fight them
Actually I have. And the contradictions made me laugh.
Yes, to keep the species going.
I think we can call that a resounding success.
For the time being...
Dunno. The species is becoming markedly stupider.
The purpose of life is to end
- Agent Smith
My wife and I are having our first child in January. So my life has the purpose of taking care of him and her.
No inherent meaning, only what we give it.
My life has a purpose but I have not found it. I fear I might do too much damage by the time I understand.
