Nope... they cant even drive up to our cans. They have to slowly back down our dead-end street.

Run for what? It’s automatic.

I wouldn’t want them to. They have physically demanding job. Cut them some slack

Mine are a private company with employee ownership. They do run. City workers do not.

Every guy (I've never seen a trash gal!) I've seen collecting my trash couldn't run to save their own lives. Every one has been WAY fat, and they hate getting outta their automated trucks. When I was a kid, these guys were much leaner, and would hang on to the backs and sides of the garbage trucks as they stopped and physically disposed of the trash in front of each residence.

No. My city has the remote control arms on the garbage trucks. Our sanitation guys don't have to get out of the truck at all.

I hope he has some sort of exercise routine, can’t possibly burn many calories driving and working whatever levers he does to pick up and dump my can then slam it back in the ground.

Unsure, I haven’t followed them home yet to check on their exercise routines

Our garbage collector is a one man operation. He drives the truck, gets out, empties the garbage cans on both sides of the street, gets back in the truck and drives on. He is underpaid… thankful for him and remember him with a tip at Christmas and 4th of July.

Same here, only the one guy runs the machinery and the truck picks up the garbage can, dumps it, and replaces the can back on the ground. It grasps the handle of the huge can that the garbage company provides.

Our Village is making arrangements for that in the coming year. Hope it makes his life easier… sometimes those new processes don’t go as planned.

It will make it easier, for sure! We also have a separate day and a separate truck that has a claw-like crane on it that picks up stuff that you put out, like branches, furniture, etc.

Our garbage trucks pick up the garbage cans and dump them into the truck, so that’s why I don’t understand this.

Sorry I meant the non automated truck teams. Meaning do they run to the next spot with trash?

We have a truck now that has a hydraulic arm that grabs the can and lifts it and dumps it into the truck. One guy driving operates the arm. It’s very efficient and easy. Before that there was one guy driving and two guys that would ride on the back. Every 50 feet or so the driver would stop and the two guys would step off and grab the two cans on either side of the street and dump them in the back of the truck. But I never saw anyone walk between houses let alone run. I can’t imagine how many marathons you would need to do every day. Plus dumping cans. That’s brutal.

Thanks, Beach. That’s EXACTLY what I’ve experienced, BA! They would ride on the back. But I think that was over 20 years ago.

Yes. Republic updated their trucks years ago

Ours is city-owned. So is our electricity. The garbage bill is included with the electric bill.
