Then you haven’t been paying attention. Here’s one example: Assembly Bill 1955.
• Enacted: Signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom on July 15, 2024, and it took effect on January 1, 2025.
• Core Provisions: The law prohibits public school districts (local educational agencies) from enacting or enforcing policies that require school staff (teachers, administrators, etc.) to notify parents or guardians if a student:
• Requests to use a different name, pronouns, or gender expression at school that differs from their assigned sex at birth.
• Seeks to socially transition in ways like using facilities or participating in activities aligned with a different gender.
• Expresses information related to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
• It bans “forced outing” or mandatory parental notification policies without the student’s consent (unless disclosure is otherwise required by law, such as in cases of suspected abuse or imminent harm).
• The law also protects school employees from retaliation if they choose not to disclose such information to parents, and it directs the California Department of Education to provide resources for supporting LGBTQ+ students and helping families discuss gender and identity topics.
In September 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-79-20, directing the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to develop regulations so that by 2035, 100% of new cars and passenger trucks sold in California would be ZEVs.
• Implementation: In August 2022, CARB adopted the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACC II) regulations. These set a ramp-up schedule for ZEV sales:
• Model year 2026: 35% of new sales must be ZEVs (including battery-electric, fuel-cell electric, and plug-in hybrids).
• Increasing annually, reaching ~68% by 2030.
• 100% ZEV sales by model year 2035.
• ZEV Definition: ZEVs include:
• Battery-electric vehicles (BEVs, fully electric).
• Fuel-cell electric vehicles (hydrogen-powered).
• Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs, which have both electric and gasoline components and can run on gas after the battery depletes).

BTE - the measures were enacted by executive order in one case, and a democrat supermajority in the other. Nobody voted to outlaw gas engine vehicles, or take away parental rights and give them to the schools and government.
