Think hard for a minute. Why is health insurance tied to employment? Unless your job is dangerous why should your employer be the one responsible for your health care?

Employment means income = you can pay your part of your healthcare bills.
Unemployment means = no income & noway to pay medical bills. Thus, welfare, good stamps, etc...

It is a job benefit just like vacation and wages and other things.

Healthy employees are productive employees, it reduces absenteeism. It also increases retention. As an employer, cxl your health plan and watch your employees leave en masse.

Because of a history (back around WWII) of wage controls & tax exemption. Plus the bargaining power of bulk purchases for better & cheaper policies (well, theoretically anyway).

Because they pay the bulk of the cost.

It is called a benefit. When I was working I had a Cadillac plan it cost me $157. a month but under COBRA was over a thousand. But no worries now you can get an Obama Care Plan that is garbage and cheap and doesn't cover anything and it's going to cost you a fortune out of pocket.
