What does โ€œfreedomโ€ actually mean to you?A. Knowing there is a safety net if things go sideways. B. Being left alone to live how I want.

Your choices are not different poles of the same issue.

It is a false dichotomy.

Overwhelming support currently for being left alone, yet we continue to pile up new laws restricting our activities or creating new government programs to outsource portions of our lives (child care, health care, etc,) that we should want to hold onto if we are serious about being left alone. Once the government attaches itself to your life, it will not let you go in your way without extracting a cost.

“Left alone” means you aren’t really an American. It’s not “We the People…when it’s convenient for me”.

“‘Left alone’ means you aren’t really an American.”

America’s founding documents is literally a declaration of independence.

From Great Britain, not from each other.

Both, really. Independence, both national and personal, are intrinsic to being American. If you don’t like it, you don’t belong here. You should move to Britain and be interdependent with the other United Kingdoms.

You are the one who doesn’t belong here if you don’t think you owe anything to other Americans.

That’s the opposite of the founding ideals of America. You’re not welcome here.

Freedom means I am left alone, and free to make my safety net or help loved ones with theirs. It also means I am not having money forcibly taken from me to go to government pyramid scheme, government waste, or people who I don't know and did not voluntarily associate with.

Option A is not Freedom, it is Dependency which becomes Slavery as soon as you become sufficiently dependent.

I believe safety is an illusion. You may feel safe or feel unsafe based on circumstances, but you are only safe until youre not. “Safety nets” which are a good thing, work until they fail you.

If its an “either or”, I will always choose my freedom and being left alone.

I do believe safety nets should be available for those that need them, I just dont think its wise to be reliant on anything the government manages

Freedom to me means, less government telling us what we can and cannot do with our lives. STAY OUT OF OUR BUSINESS!!

When someone tries to break in your home and rape you, don’t cry to the government when police don’t come to help, nor that there aren’t laws prohibiting such acts. Exactly how much do you want government to “STAY OUT OF OUR BUSINESS?”

For one, I didn’t say no government, I just said “less government”. There’s things our tax dollars are good for, I don’t mind paying for cops, fire, 911, food for children. Second, if I was going to be raped, I’m quite sure I wouldn’t be able to get on the phone and call for help, (not till after), they wouldn’t be able to get there fast enough anyways. That doesn’t matter because I have my 357 Magnum, I don’t even think he’d get close to me, matter of fact I don’t think he’d make it past my husband! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

The term “Free Climbing” means without a safety system to catch you if you fall. You cannot be truly free if you can only go where others have gone and made it safe for you. True freedom necessitates risk.

Both. One does not preclude the other. You can leave people alone, free to try things, and then catch them with some safety net if things go wrong.

The people that forged ahead to build the safety nets were free. Those that followed are only as free as the prior people allowed.

Good question, as I believe its one of those words that everyone says they are in favor of, yet people dont seem to have the same definition for. That said- I voted B

B is freedom. A is something separate and unrelated.
