If certain medical care is limited, should it be given A) on a 1st come, 1st served basis OR B) younger people prioritized over the elderly (say a 20 year old vs an 80 year old) OR C) who can pay the most?

A) B) C)

None of the above. Patients should be triaged to determine the urgency of their need. Those with the greatest need should be prioritized.

Interesting that across party lines A was the top choice. Congratulations! You found something we can all mostly agree on! That’s a real miracle! Well done!

D.) whoever the provider wants to give the treatment to, based on the provider's values and principles.

Triage
Patients are prioritized by medical necessity, and a bit of first come first served

None of the above. It should be administered on a triage basis.

Exactly. Who needs it the soonest?

I vote first come, first serve. As long as they can pay the bill. Whether that is insurance or out of pocket.

The age thing isn't viable until resources are limited. Resources being supplies and space. Like the whole COVID thing...when we had space, people and supplies...it was basically first come first serve with a triage based on severity and reported cases of triage being based on age.

It would be based on need and urgency.

Why would you leave healthcare up to identity, wealth, or access rather than health

Children and younger people first with a priority given to pregnant women.

For everyone saying "Triage", A) I didn't have enough space in the poll question to explicitly exclude it & B) I think it's pretty obvious to save the person about to die vs the person who can survive another 5 years. Maybe the solution was to include "ceteris paribus" in the poll question, but. Again, I thought mentioning/including Triage was unnecessary as it'd be the obvious choice. Just assume the same severity between people.

I chose Option A, but actually, triage is a lot more complicated than the poll would suggest.

I don’t know. I kinda feel like children should take priority over 80 year olds but then again it would depend on the exact medical condition. A child who has cancer should be treated before an 80 year old who broke their fibula.

None of that. It should be prioritized on the basis of urgency.
