One complaint then and now was that so many Americans thought we went to Iraq b/c they attacked us on 9/11. And the Bush administration did little to nothing to correct this assumption, even going so far as to encourage this thinking

There weren't any. All we did was create more problems for ourselves and waste money and lives.

We went in for the wrong reasons, but Saddam had broken multiple international laws, so if we went to the UN saying "These guys are out of control" instead of "OMG they have bombs I swear!" then we might of had more support making things a tad easier.

"Mistake" makes it sound unintentional or misguided. Neither of those applies to this deliberate, unjustified, unconscionable act of aggression orchestrated by a megalomaniac claiming to have received his orders directly from a god. No mistake.

Saddam Hussein was murdering his people, so in one sense, no it wasn't a mistake. In every other sense, we shouldn't have invaded.

But that was not the justification for going into Iraq. In addition, many dictators do this on a daily basis and we don not invade them.

If he was that bad, why didn't daddy bush take him out in desert storm?

11/01/13 9:36 am

Because George H W Bush was smart enough to keep him in power as a check on Iran and Saudi Arabia, even as weakened as he was after the gulf war

"Daddy Bush" didn't take him out because Saddam was useful. Bush took him out for his dad. I already know all this Abolitionist. But for all the bad, at least now all Iraq has to worry about is being murdered by terrorists for voting.

Angel, we can't ally with bad guys then use that as an excuse to go to war when it's convenient. How's that make us look?

Yes. In hind sight. However, the US was a very different country almost 11 years ago.

100,000 lives and a trillion dollars wasted in a foreign land based on an incorrect premise. What a waste and shame
