I refuse to visit stores, fast food places, etc. on holidays. I won’t be the reason anyone has to work that day.

Holiday pay is enticing. I would happily work on major holidays. Living in a popular tourist destination, many businesses remain open for vacationers and travelers.

I will go to a store if I need / want to. I have many times worked holidays and weekends when I was younger, I was happy with the extra pay.

I’ll go to a gas station on holidays, but I tend to go to the ones that are owned:operated by foreign people who don’t necessarily celebrate that holiday.

You are the reason these people won’t be making money. Grinch!

I agree. One year my wife and I went out for an early Christmas dinner and we left the waitress a 100% tip. We spoke to her about working and she was in college and couldn’t really afford to go home that year.

Why? They get time and a half. I always chose to work holidays because I am not religious and sometimes they even give you double pay. Visit the stores, you aren't hurting or helping anyone. Just act normal dude.

When I was in college I loved working holidays (especially Christmas) as a server at an upscale restaurant. Made tons of tips when I needed it most.

Some people need the job and some volunteer to work during the holidays.

Triple time and no tax on it. When I was an HR Director, we filled those spots with volunteers first. I stay home on holidays or I tip double…also no tax.

Having been a server, nothing is worse than having to work a holiday and no one shows up. You make zero tips, but still have to work. Since then, I will absolutely stop into anyplace open but empty.

Sometimes you should just talk to the staff and see what would help them the most rather than ride by on your white horse while looking down your nose.

Well I don’t know about tipping restaurants but everywhere else I’ve worked on holidays, when it’s slow you can get sent home early.
Like happened to me today, after a hectic lunch rush. πŸ™„

Corporations would actually close on holidays if labor costs were higher than profit. But of course our culture is a me-me consumption one.

Your culture also presumes Christian. Many of the places where I’ve worked had people who do no see tomorrow as a holiday at all.

Finally, as a young person, my choice was to sit in my tiny apartment by myself, or spend the day with my friends at work.

The point is that you say that you don’t do this like it’s some kind of gift or help to those who are working. Why do you get to decide that and the workers don’t?

It sounds very me-me and never considers what other people would want to have happen.

Next up are the feats of strength.

The Chinese restaurants are almost all open on Christmas Day. I’m sure they’d love your business.

I would but I don’t like Chinese Food. 🀷‍♀️

This country is overworked. Everywhere in retail or food service I’ve worked everyone complains all day about having to be there during a holiday.

If you want to work, fine. Show up and work wildly understaffed, alone even. Because nobody who has plans should have to be there.

I don’t want to miss a special annual family gathering because my coworker was bored and a customer wanted a Big Mac.

Too many people today have no idea what real work is. We would have never had a Brooklyn Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Empire State Building and more if people had been afraid of hard work.

Some people choose to work so others do not that have young families and also. eBay’s tips are usually very good on holidays…

My daughter just said this today, when I told her that her sister is going out to eat tomorrow.
