Both. We open with my brother’s family Christmas eve, and my parents and step-daughter, her wife, and grand kids Christmas day.

We open a select group of presents on Christmas Eve (a set of pajamas, a fleece blanket, and either a Christmas book for kids or an ornament for adults), and the rest on Christmas morning.

When I was young, my sister and I would open one gift on Christmas Eve. I don’t recall doing that with my kids. Coincidentally, my youngest daughter’s birthday is on Christmas Eve, so she gets a few presents on 12/24 and the rest on the 25th.

Days of observance begin at Sundown. I got a Chanukah gift last week. My s.o. will get her Christmas gift after the Cal - Hawaii game tonight.

When my kids were growing up, we had a 12:01AM tradition. We are anxiously awaiting a 12:01 video call from our son to watch our granddaughter open her gifts.

Always did it Christmas eve night growing up, but now, we do it whenever we all can get together for Christmas. This year it's Jan.3.

From Germany. We did ours on Dec 24 eve.

We get together whenever all of us or almost all of us can do so. They have the other side of their families to go to, so we often do it before Christmas, or as long as in January. We decided when we were young and saw all of hubby’s family members scrambling to get to multiple places in one day that we cared more about everyone not stressing themselves than we did about the exact date.

We skip the whole presents thing. We do an extended family vacation each year instead.

Whenever we can all get together.
For a number of years the only person missing was me. Working at a 24x7 job and being single, I would let my staff take 🎄off and I would cover for everyone. My family was (and still is) spread out all over the country anyway.

Traditionally we open a small present out parents pick out on Christmas Eve then open everything big on Christmas Day including stuff “Santa” brought us.

Should be asked every year. 😉
