The most effective way to get rid of the chains of 'political correctness' is for each of us to make a personal choice to refuse to be offended by mere words or expressions. Agree?

words are just sounds meant to illicit a prescribed response. they don't control you and if you're too weak to let them that's your problem.

People need to quit having the victim mentality. Take ownership of your feelings & how you react to what someone says or does. Yes. Words can hurt. But it's your choice to let it change you or not.

Political Correctness is about civility and speaking with respect to everyone. Those against it are now angry and whining because people are demanding respect and no longer willing to accept the status quo. Whine all you want it won't be as it was.

Political correctness is about suppressing views or verbiage you don't like. And I refuse to be held down by it.

Completely agree. Remember how it started? Someone began whining that this is bad and that is bad, then they came up with new words and expressions and the media promoted it. Racism excluded. There is no excuse for racism.

Thank you! If we each do this, and teach our kids the same, we'll eventually root this crap out for good.

No - because words do hurt

Only if you allow them to. I choose not to allow them to. You should work on that. ;)

I'm glad you are able to do that - not everyone can - ask the parents of the 12 year old girl who jumped off the roof of the cement plant in Florida - I bet they would disagree with you as well

That's parenting. Sad to say now, but there were ways to prevent that from having happened.

I'm sure there are - however, you are never going to have 100% good parenting - heck you are never going to have 100% of children having parents - and you are never going to have 100% mentally health people. Expecting other wise is foolish

Sure, but does that mean the rest of us have to walk on eggshells? Hell no.

Actually - looking at the harm words can cause - suicide - murder - divorce - low self esteem - I would say decent peoe would want to use words that wouldn't hurt

It's not the words that cause those things. It's the response of the listener.

shellybaxter1234 Peaceful Place

That doesn't even make sense - without the words there wouldn't be the response

Words don't matter unless you allow them to.
You could call me every name in the book and it won't affect me. Why? Because I choose not to allow your words to affect me.
Words are powerless apart from a response in the listener.

AND for us to refuse to use politically "correct" terms, like Ms., or calling post-surgically mutilated transgendered people by a new name or pronoun, e.g., Chastity Bono is still a "she" - no need to call her Chazz.

Good for you! Personally, I only use Ms. as a sign of disrespect for Feminazis like Hillary. And I put it in quotes.

Exactly. I may disagree with someone, and that's fine. But I don't have to be a wuss about it.
