A suburb in Texas has fired its police department and hired a private security firm to handle all police matters. The municipal govt has said crime has dropped by 50% and it costs less. Are libertarians really all that crazy?
They're not nuts if the mall cops adhere to same basic code of ethics and oath.
You're nuts we can't have private security that's insane having to pay someone to protect your property rights? No way.
.....like you do with cops
This neighborhood IS doing it. It's not a concept, it's BEING done
So what if the cops catch a burglar do you have to pay them?
Yeah even if they don't you pay them.
Was it on the border with Mexico? And no, makes sense to me.
Can a security firm arrest someone? Out them in cuffs?
It would be interesting to see this attempted in Detroit.
Or it's being reported less because there's less accountability. It costs less because they're getting a lower class and lees educated group of people. People who DON'T have the authority to write citations or arrest for less than a felony.
There's a lot of assumptions there. I know some cops who are window licking idiots.
And I know a few that are sharp as effin tacks. You get great guys and retards EVERYWHERE...
Including private security firms
Yes, "everywhere" includes private security, police, McDonald's, Walmart, Exxon... Pretty much anywhere that has employees.
So will you withdraw your assumption that these folks are inferior simply because they didn't take a government job?
I was only saying that they don't receive the level of training that police do, and higher pay attracts higher quality candidates.
you don't know what training they receive nor who they hire
True, I don't. But it's doubtful they receive more training than a police officer (min 2 years college, POST, and Skills) and many security personnel are washouts from LE programs. So I'd say it's a reasonable deduction.
You know that those qualifications ONLY apply to MN, right? Every other state requires that you be 18 with a HS diploma as minimum qualifications.
Minnesota AND Wisconsin require it, along with 15% of the 700,000 state, county, and local agencies. Only 1% so far requires a 4 year degree, but that number is quickly rising.
Is anyone actually surprised by this? The only thing that would concern me is if they had to start meeting quotas on arrests etc.
Like the government DOES?
Here's the thing, you can fire a private department!
Willing to be an ancap yet?
I'm closer. This still doesn't seem to allow for competition which has always been my hesitation.
Works everytime its tried.
But people who worship at the altar of the State are scared that they believe in a false god, one that may not be the answer to their prayers. Or worse yet, they're afraid of losing power and control over their neighbors.
Nope never private police. Remember private police are always for profit.....
...even though it's cheaper. Did you even read the link?
It doesn't matter they have invested interest to give tickets and arrest people.... In the long run in the big picture it will never work. Public police are corrupt enough... Don't think that will ever happen to a private police force???
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense if you don't consider the fact that a private firm can be fired.
If or when they manipulate the town, the town fires them and hires someone else.
Can we fire the government when they manipulate us?
Troll, then they get fired. The GOVERNMENT relies on tickets for revenue. Seriously, what goes on in that head of yours?
Damn i hope this is true
I'm not crazy, I've been tested.
Hey Jim did the boys in TX get a hold of you?
Nope. I left messages on the website only to be ignored. I know they are around, I've seen them last weekend riding through town.
They might not be checking the email from the website. Send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll get some info down there
Looks like I'm moving to Sharpstown, TX! Who's with me?
This is COMPLETELY irresponsible! Nothing would make me feel safer than a bunch of George Zimmermans running around gunning down unarmed African Americans! This can't be real!
What about traditional police makes you feel any better? Trolls get up early I guess.
Private security will be held to tighter standards. They won't be protected or misconduct.
This is what you worship www.policestateusa.com/2013/john-geer-shot-by-police/
Traditional police are trained! Blood hungry vigilantes with itchy trigger fingers are not bound by any sort of procedures that protects the public from their harassment! They're Zimmerman style rent-a-cops!
And the private firm won't be trained? I believe the private firm will be trained better so they can keep there job.
L&P, you're insane.
"Blood hungry vigilantes with itchy trigger fingers"
THATS YOUR BELOVED MESSIAH GOVERNMENT POLICE
Private security firms often are ex-military which are better trained than police. As a private company they aren't protected by the govt. If they screw up they get fired, sued, or jailed depending on the situation. Police get away with wrongdoing.
You need to start opening your eyes L&P
"They don't pull people over, they don't stop traffic..."
It'll be interesting to see what the effect on traffic will be.
