Inspired by doctalk: With cold and flu season upon us, are there any natural/ homeopathic remedies/ preventatives you take in advance?
Immediate fluid challenge. Lots of fresh citrus. Vit c 3x per day. Increase D and E .. Neti Pot and saline gargle for Sore Throat/Head Cold symptoms. Aggressive deep breathing if chest involved. REST.
We take echinacea.
Tincture tastes horrible (at least Herb Pharm's version) Have a better suggestion?
God keeps me safe every year.
Hey. Never underestimate the power of
Positive thinking. I still think smoking keeps me from getting 90% of the stuff my 3yr old brings home. She and the Mrs. will alternate who has it as it slips past me.
On top of a healthy diet, I bump up my vitamin c and d intake along with extra zinc. I haven't had a cold in at least 5 years, and it's been even longer since I've had the flu ( no flu shots either).
That is my routine .. Minus the zinc.
There are effective natural remedies. Homeopathic anything is bull. It's water people, stop wasting money on stupidity.
Thank you and moonshot for the distinction. Unfortunately, many natural remedies are labeled as homeopathic. Homeopathic, I know is for prevention but the bioron is for relief post illness.
Stick to Pubmed before trying any of that stuff. If it's around, it's been studied and you'll know whether or not it works
Don't confuse home remedies with Homeopathic "medicine". They are not the same thing. Not even close.
A lot of people simply have never been shown the difference.
Thank you and magnum for the distinction. But in marketing and labeling, natural relief and homeopathic prevention is getting blurred.
Actually, I don't think you'll see the word homeopathic used anywhere to market home remedies. It's just a misuse of the word by the general population. Marketers know better.
The product I am specifically talking about is by boiron. Product itself (coldcalm) is effective and post symptom, but the company touts its homeopathic "medicines". Homeopathic is all over the packaging. From our food co-op. www.boironusa.com.
I do agree homeopathic is meaningless.
We keep vitamin c on hand, and everything else is mostly symptom/cause specific. For example, earaches I use garlic and hydrogen peroxide. Sore throat, honey and my mom has some awesome honeysuckle honey. Mucus, lots of chicken and broth.
Keep forgetting that. Liked your comments on the disposable ones.
I am altogether too lazy to deal with a Neti pot. Disposable is the way to go - keep it in the shower and honk that gnarly stuff right out of there.
I just stick with my normal healthy diet. I make sure I get exercise and spend time outside. I am very healthy so I don't worry about it. If I do get sick it never lasts very long.
I avoid anyone too young to drive as if they had the plague - because they probably do.
Breathless, again. Thanks.
Usually elderberry and boneset tinctures, which the Mrs. makes from our weed infested garden. Also, we get sabadil (from boiron) homeopathic symptom remedy from our co-op. Seems to get us through anything.
The homeopathic remedy is water. Save your money and keep the positive attitude and you'll be just fine.
