Should the full retirement age for social security be raised to 70?

It's already 67. The proposals I've seen raise it to:
68 for people in their 40s today,
69 for people in their 30s today,
70 for people in their 20s today.

I feel very bad for people in their 20's & 30's. With the demise of unions, the modern business model of no pensions, people are going to have to work 40-50 years until they retire. It won't work.

Don't people already work 40-50 years until they retire? 65-18 = 47.

Don't feel bad. I don't mind it at all.
My grandpa still works construction at 78 and I intend to do the same.

I will not work until I'm 70. If that means Chase kicks me out if my home, so be it. I won't make it to 70 if I have to work another 18 years. I've payed my dues & SS. You young ones figure something out and leave my ass alone.

Why is social security only taxed on incomes up to 110,000$ ? After that, taxes aren't collected. It's the most regressive tax in the system.

It's because SS only pays out a certain amount upon retirement. It won't pay out millions/year to someone who made millions while working.

Theres the money we need for it, just tax it up to a higher income

Then you would have to:
A) Pay out more to people that had higher incomes before retirement.
B) Admit that SS is a welfare program, eliminating the strongest argument in support of it.

A. That would be a problem.
B. It's sad being poor or lower middle class is demonized.

No one is demonizing anything. I'm just presenting to you the reality of what you advocate.

The reality is a lot of people couldn't make it without Social Security. It doesn't add to the deficit and we are the richest country in the world, that's the reality of it.

Liberty is correct, SS is supposed to be a government backed pension scheme. The more you pay into the system the higher your payment upon retirement.

When it was introduced it was intended to be 1of 3 parts of a person's retirement income. The other 2 parts are supposed to be workplace savings..

... (401k/pension/other qualified plans), and private savings (stocks/cash/other non-qualified accounts).

Yes:
1) 70 isn't that old anymore.
2) It's a step towards stability for Social Security (if you're into that sorta thing).
3) If you want the luxury of an early retirement, save your money and work for it.

Stupid horny people in the 50's. Did they not realize that their rowdy behavior would cause a big commotion?

You'd be safe, people keep bringing up raising the age so future generations have money.

In other words, start getting Medicare after 50 yrs of working? Most people will not physically be able to do that.

We have a spending problem! Yes, the revenue system needs revamped as well but the greater problem is spending.

So cut social security? Medicare?

No, reduce SNAP and unemployment benefits on the "entitlement" side and get rid of Depts we don't need like Education, Homeland Security, and Energy to name a few. And drastically cut Defense!

Get rid of subsidies and tax loopholes for corporations but lower their tax rate to 10-15%.
