To the best of your knowledge, have you ever been FOOLED by an Internet rumor or spoof and forwarded it, as if it were true?
I probably did, but I won't admit it because I'm embarrassed lol
Wireless ac extension cable.
I don't forward a lot of stuff.
I've been fooled by these pictures that get sent out after a big storm, showing the blizzard or tornado, but it's really a pic that's been on the web for years.
Poll within a poll: When you get one of these forwarded by a friend, do you let the friend know it's fake? Or do you just delete it and move on?
There are some people I'll reply to with a link to snopes. But my aunt is a lost cause. I just delete hers. I used to tell her but she just keeps forwarding stuff.
I had to tell one person to take me out of their address book it got so bad!!
If it's by email I do. If you follow snopes on FB they post a top ten weekly about stuff searched on their site. I post that weekly rather than comment on every fraud post.
When the prince of an African nation wants your account number to deposit 10 million dollars why wouldn't you do it?
Wait a minute! Are you saying I SHOULDN'T have sent him my account number? What?
Wait... Gorillaz aren't real people? Is Rick Astley not a member then?
Yea. A few times - started checking. Now they are easy. If it's circulating that's the first tip; then conspiracy theory [my favorite] lol - never true; then the Obama ones - priceless. My conspiracy theory - North Korean hackers tricking the US.
I don't think so
Matt, I think you're much too smart and level headed to fall for that kind of thing.
Maybe once? I can't remember for sure. I'm pretty careful about checking things out before I post them anywhere, though. I think the one I missed was just a news story that was 2 years old, rather than being a new thing. (So I'm changing vote to no.)
Susan, I thought of this poll, after that recent user poll, based on a fake rumor. (I'd rather not name names here.)
I don't think so. But I'm not sure.
Ah! Just like jms below said, long, long ago-before I found Snopes.
Oh! And I intentionally forwarded the message that started years ago, "watch the picture, figure out what is different in the two pictures"..."AARRGH!!!" Gotcha! Hated that one.
What's really annoying is when somebody forwards an email with the comment, "I don't know if this is true, but I'm forwarding just in case." Geez, it's easy enough to check! Why take a chance on forwarding a lie?
I use snopes.com to verify stuff.
I told one of my friends about the site and he said it was a propaganda site run by liberals. Totally fake. I'm still laughing about that one. Lol.
Long, long ago when the internet was fairly new I was duped a few times. But now I'm suspicious of most everything I read that's been forwarded or passed on. I have a few websites that I trust completely but very few.
I thought Jackie Chan died a couple weeks ago.
Will Smith & his family's reaction picture to Miley Cyrus
Thank you! People are still talking about that one...
You mean that's not real? Well at least I didn't forward.
